is it me or a gmax kits rubbish? help and opinions please!
hi everyone I have just brought a new 16v xr2i which ive currently taken off the road for the next few weeks for a 2.0 zetec conversion which im looking forward too! My old 2i was lowered on standard shocks with fiesta centre springs and the handling was great! my new one is lowered 35mm on gmax kit and the handling seems poor in comparison I cant have anywhere near as much fun! Do any other owners have any views on gmax kits for handling?

Not you at all mate they are cheap shoddy crap with a build quality that is iffy verging on downright dangerous.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

There are mixed reviews on Gmax kits, however I'm not getting into it because I've only ever been in one or two cars with it fitted
But things to consider are:
1) How old the kit is. It could be worn out...
2) Tracking
3) How worn other suspension components are, e.g. lower arms, top mount rubbers, ARB (the drop links not only wear, but can bend), ARB rubbers. Also look at the rear beam bushes.
4) How low the car is... If it's silly low, then the handling could be affected in a negative way.
Just some ideas to look at

I have the 35mm kit and am really disapointed with it. Its far too soft so i always hit the bump stops at even a gentle pace, and i think the seals are going on them as they make squeezy noises going over speed bumps. Ive had them for about 8 months, really really wish i handnt bothered, and feel that that is one area where its really ruining my handling.
Just because I keep talking about definetly doing it doesn't mean I'm actualy going to do it.

yer mine looks almost brand new! my fezzy has also had new lower arms etc so all components are new so must be the kit. Mine isnt silly low im sure its a 35mm drop so in theory should be alright! So I think after my uprated brakes and 2.0 zetec im def gona have to look at an alternative. Im thinking konis or poss a set of coilovers if I have the spare cash! Really dissapointed with the handling at the mo with the gmax kit as I know how well these cars can handle when set up properly! thanks for the help guys

Iv got the same G-max kit on my Xr2i 16v with a 35mm drop. I dont seem to have the same problems with mine, and i am fairly happy with it. There is a slight bit of role but you cant expect wonders from shocks that are cheaper than standard ford shocks.

s**t, along with Gaz/Spax and all that budget stuff.
Go for a drive in a car with Leda/Bilstein or similar quality - it's hard to comprehend just how big the difference is!

My local Halfords had an amazing ammount of g-max returned and no spax returned!
As stated from personal experience g-max are down right dangerous crap but people who have them fitted wont admit to the truth lol.
