is it worth replacing the stock 6000cd head unit?
I have a mk5 fiesta with the 6000cd head unit and stock speakers. It cant handle any bass what so ever which is bad cos i like bass. im thinking about replacing the head unit and getting one with 4x50watt outputs.
what i want to know is how much of a differance will this make? and will i need to do anything about the front speakers as they are component speakers and i have no idea if they are connected to a passive crossover or if the head unit sorts that out?
Any other ideas for increasing the bass in my car? i dont want to fit a sub or amp (unless it is easy and wont ruin my car ).

Yes I would throw the factory unit in the nearest canal. The stock speakers won't be up to much so fit a nice component set up front. If you want some bass and don't want to fit an amp and sub you can put some 6x9's in (only time you'll hear me say that).
Personally I would get some components for teh front doors a sub for the boot and a nice 4ch amp to run the whole lot and do away with back speakers all together.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

I agree to remove it, but 6000CD's fetch £40+ on ebay!

Me too. I think i might just see how it sounds with a new head unit then if i need to and have enough money i might buy 6x9s or posibly a sub.

Strange that. It's the output of the radio thats crap, not the head unit itself - I bought a 6000CD unit (as Chris2i would know) to replace the casette unit in my mk5, bought some speaker - RCA converters from CarAudioSecurity, plus a CD changer interface for phono in. Completely bypassed the normal outputs, using the RCA's into my amps - the JBL GTO does a little bit of signal processing and puts just HPF to the fronts and uprated rear speakers, and a mutant bass pack handles the bass. I just plug my ipod into the cd changer interface and get perfect sound - pretty good quality and can be really loud at times!
Plus the added bonus is prying eyes see the standard head unit, they don't walk past, see the uprated head unit (even a thief knows whats there when you hide the security face), and know that there will be something else within that car.
One day maybe I'll upgrade the head unit, but not for now - sounds good enough as it is!

The Ford 6006 head unit is awesome.
Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.
