hi guys could anyone shed a bit of light on this subject please.

i was on the track the other day and noticed the rev limiter was on 6000rpm when i was doing bout 120 in 5th gear. the car can do bout 140 at the mo as its just a standard 2.0ltr and i did it a few months ago so i know it can, but i didnt look at the revs when i did it, it must of been at the top :( Im a bit confused because my old 1.6 xr2i could do 128 flat out and the rev limiter would be just under 6000rpm.

is this right as i dont want to damage my engine.

thanks

Its down to the gearing, sounds like you have a 1.6 zetec gearbox?

mine will knock 125 fairly easy, but wont go over that.
it's down to the 'box. try a 1.8 escort diesel box, they have a very high ratio 5th

thats with an rs1800 spec 1.8 lump,

the gearbox came with the engine which was a 105ps from an escort,
after i drove it i thought it must be an rs1800 gearbox cos the ratios are amazing!

In my RS1800 i get nothing like that, about 75 in 3rd and around 90 in 4th, in 5th it will go on to 126. Thats with a standard car. Getting the ERST box soon, as mine broke on thursday.
