jerky power uptake

Postby scoobynewby on Wed Apr 02, 2003 9:36 pm

when pulling away something like a drive shaft seems to 'jump' or 'jerk' as drive is taken up. Also when driving a long and put the clutch in it does this. One of these problems thats really hard to describe

hope someone can help
cheers

engine mount or driveshaft most likely. Also excessive wear in front suspension components possible.

Mine had similar symptoms and turned out to be the head gasket that had gone.

Is one of those problems that could be a number of different things to cause the same effects.

My bushes are shafted and my 2i has a jerky uptake too. You can move the arm about with your hands! :oooh:

if it's the engine mount you should be able to feel a jerk once you accelerate after shifting up gears.
mine had totally gone and the engine was bouncin up and down on each gear change.

Yep, used to have that too. The giveaway was the gearstick shifting about 1/2" under acceleration :aaah:
