Re: Job Title
I work in an oil analysis laboratory as an Interpreter. Which means I interpret the raw data from the laboratory and write reports based on the results to present to the customer. Extremely boring and they're not paying me anywhere near enough money hence why I'm looking for a new job.
I actually qualified as an Electrical Engineer, so relevant!

Re: Job Title
For Ollybee...
Officially I'm an IT manager.
In reality I'm an ITC co-ordinator & trainer - which is a lot more involved and you get shorter lunches. I supervise a four strong staff of IT & communications engineers who maintain the network and comms of a company who currently have offices in and around the Sheffield area. This year is going to be a bigggie, having recovered from the total loss of our main computing centre and our largest office following heavy flooding last year. We will be looking to take on more IT staff this year as I'm moving into a more managerial / hands-off role where I'll be able to provide information resources and develop systems for data minign to help keep our management staff happy. I'll still be providing and organising training for staff - their lack of IT knowledge is, at times, quite frightening (The sort of people who have to ask WHY you can't put a solid steel knife in a hot toaster...).
As a sideline I write embedded applications and systems, principally for use in signal / data conversion and control /security. This is a lot more interesting than it sounds and I've been to some very strange places as a result.

Its a varied job so never really get bored, we also have a good Head of ICT that makes sure we get a decent budget so always have new things to play with. Its fun when we have telesales phone up and we can just say already got that thanks

Re: Job Title
My role is different to a personal trainer, a conditioning coach who works in sports performance has to apply scientific principles into sport performance. For example, we have to consider how training and other factors can improve sport performance and not just improve something like body mass, body fat, muscle mass etc. For example, increasing muscle mass via a typical weight training programe a personal trainer would give someone, could in faxt inhibit sport performance in many sports as this extra mass may not actually increase strength when considering the extra weight you put on. Therefore this could make an athete slower and less agile. Also unlike a personal trainer a sports conditioning coach today requires a minimum of a undergraduate degree, strength a conditioning accreditation to work with eathletes and lots and lots of experience of working alongside and coaching athletes. Hence my bachelors degree and masters degree in sport science and exercise physiology, strength and cnditioning accreditation and all my voluntary work to increase my experience. It is a great job, however I dont get paid an penny as its purely voluntary while I wait for a full time paid job which are generally not advertised and very rare.
