Overboost protection from the sounds of things. What boost and chip are you running?

Ah right boost i dont know yet until i get my boost gague and there shouldnt be any chip on it.
It should be running standard boost as theres no bleed valve on it or anything it has got the amel valve on as well.

Re: Jolting When On Boost
If it's running above standard boost levels and has no chip, you will hit the overboost protection. Get a good gauge on there and see what it's up to

Re: Jolting When On Boost
By buying a chip to do so. Chips remove the overboost protection function. We supply MSD chips if you'd like one

Re: Jolting When On Boost
think about the condition of the engine before chipping etc etc. You may be better off just dropping the boost alittle (this can be done with a bleed valve BUT get it setup properly)
Just bunging a chip on to get rid of the overboost protection isnt always the best option

Using a bleed valve will not lower the boost pressure. Dropping the boost pressure would of course rectify the problem, but wouldn't allow the engine to carry on operating as it is at the moment (i.e. at the current power/boost levels), which is what prompted me to suggest a chip. If the engine is so unhealthy that it isn't in a state to be chipped, it probably shouldn't be in use anyway! Most FRSTs running on a T3 weren't bought to run standard power I would say

Re: Jolting When On Boost
Well i've managed to get a cheap 165 chip, boost gauge, samcos and bleed valve so in next week or two i'll be doing some testing on it.
The engine is in okay condition and its only running the T2 i'm not loooking to be running high boost just stop it from smashing my head in to steering wheel when it boosts lol.
cheers guys i'll let you knwo how it goes.
PS James have you got them rebuild prices yet?

Re: Jolting When On Boost (Updated Still Happening)
Right i did a full service on the car today and i installed the boost gauge its boosting at 7psi. The car is running fine. I then installed the 165 chip i got and its still doing it!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!
I noticed its only doing it when you put full throttle on its fine up to about 3/4 throttle then when you hit full it instantly stops whats going on?

Re: Jolting When On Boost (Updated Still Happening)
That's no good! You should be making full boost by 75% throttle, so it would appear to be more a case of throttle position than boost pressure measurement, given the current level of information. Swap your TPS for a good known item and see if that helps

Re: Jolting When On Boost (Updated Still Happening)
Not sure if its liked but the Idle control value is unplugged at mo because when i plug it in the car idles at 3.5k Unfortunatly i dont have another TPS to try either i guess i'll have to get them both together off a breaking car.
