I was thinking of adding strenthening to it, but I think an extra aerocatch in the middle will ensure its not lost around Castle Combe

Stickers are off the front;

car shampoo and polish will do as long as you make sure the rags and sponge is clean otherwise it will scratch the top gell coat really badly!

If you want it back to its orignal former glory mate...

pick up some 2000 grade wet and dry... wet it and rub away the surface will go dull but with some g3 cutting compound and polish after..

you will have a high gloss finish after....

Mine will have to be fitted the other way round to cover the existing holes

Do you think thats a good idea to have another fitted in the middle at the front edge of the bonnet ??

"A lot of body shops won't even realise that carbon hoods are coated with a different clearcoat than the rest of the car. Its more elastic because cabon fibre expands and contracts in heat/ cold. Don't use abrasives or you get a "bruising" or "shadowing" of the clear, especially by hand. I wouldn't even let a body shop use a mild abrasive on it.

Use a cleansing wax, very gently by hand. Best is Klasse All-In-One because it has no abrasives but perfects the paint brilliantly. Otherwise try Super Resin Polish by Autoglym or the Zymol Paint Cleanser (the blue stuff made by Turtle Wax, not the real expensive Zymol). Work the product in straight lines going from front to back of car, not side to side. Work a small area, but don't let it dry to a haze completely. Give it a light buff as you go, then give it a good buff with a micro-fibre towel." Keith-Racershaven.com

this was posted on a forum is used use before. remembered it so just searched and it was still there. hope its of help.

April can't come quick enough for me Mike :D

Bonnet is fitted :Q :Q

Only took me 5 hours :o :o :o

The main issues were matching up the existing holes to the bonnet hinges.

Anyway, rear pins will be replaced with another set of Aeros

I used the Autoglym on it and it came up good, there is alot of glue left from where I removed the stickers, but I ran out of time to give it anymore polish.

More lightening from under the bonnet, removed the bulkhead thingy

Also did a quick job (it was getting dark) of cutting out the covers for where the old mirrors were

few piccies :aviator:

Image

Aeros were easy to fit, I used my jigsaw with a metal blade to cut out the holes :D

plenty of masking and they were both cut out within 5 minutes

Image

:Q
Image

Image

The bonnet isn't perfect, well it is third hand now, there are a few superficial cracks, but this is a track car and not a (full on) show car.

I reckon swapping it over has saved me around 10kg.

10kg, Hmm. Bonnets are not *that* heavy are they?

Looks good either way.

As for glue, You might need some solvent first then polish!

The difference between a carbon or kevlar bonnet and a std steel one is immense, you need to have both side by side to appreciate it tbh.

Looks quality for a track car mate :D

If you're that arsed about the bonnet, you could always rub it down and re-laquer the top side along with adding some resin to the underside of the cracked bit :)

I'm not that fussed about the minor cracks, there really not that bad. :)

I really want to spend another day on it, still got the carpet to remove,

roof lining, and fit the harness', hopefully I can sort that this week.

More progress today :D

Gave the bonnet a good polish this morning and got all the sticker glue off

Image

Image

Then I took out the carpet and roof lining and fitted my harness anchors :Q

I did find 3 holes that need to be welded, the worst one is in the bulkhead about 50mm x 50mm, that explains why the carpet was soaking wet :( :( , seat mount on the passenger side and a small one in the drivers footwell, booked it in to be done next month.

starting to look like a proper track motor now

Image

Ford didn't use no more paint than needed did they
Image

Once the roof has been fitted I'm going to paint out the interior in loverly Pacifica :aviator:

Next jobs are remove all the sound deadening, polycarb windows
