I might run it up the road tomorrow mate and put it on the weighbridge, will be interesting to know what it is atm. :)

Max, They wouldn't fit, due to the angle of the arm, these are really designed for Caterham type cars, there frigging tiny

Anyway weighed the old bonnet this morning and it weighed 14kg, so virtually 3x what the carbon one weighs :o ,

It must of looked funny, me holding the bonnet stood on my bathroon scales in the kitchen   :bonkers:

Go Shaun! That bonnet's come up a treat, tape tidies up the corners too :) I hope I can fit in that seat you've fitted! ;) For reference, my car was 960kg with full Recaro interior, parcel shelf with speakers etc, two layers of Ford felt sound proofing on the front and rear floors, plus quite a lot of adhesive mat sound proofing in the doors/tailgate/rear quarters etc, and quarter of a tank of fuel, plus driver.

Well drove up to the weighbridge today and she weighed in at a heafty 860kg :o

So came home and started to strip out the sound proofing, done just over half and weighed it  5kg, so should be nearly 10kg when I've finished.

Also going to lose the rear wiper and central locking, I'm keeping the leccy windows for the while.

Once the glass and roof has been replaced hopefully it should be near the 800kg which is what I'm after.

part of what I removed; you can see the hole I found around the passenger seat mount, thats being sorted next month.
Image

and how the interior looks now, I had to stop I was getting a blister

Yeah, got to put her on a serious diet :oooh:

860kg was with only one seat and less than a quater of a tank of fuel

I suppose the hatch weighs a fair bit compared to your fibreglass one as well.

That's cool to know you're already 100kg under what mine weighs in "road trim". I removed 50kg by removing my cage, passenger seat, rear seats and parcel shelf, so down to 910kg. A decent bucket seat, tearing up the many layers of soundproofing, rear wiper etc, door speakers (and turbo??) and I can see that dropping a further 50kg or so. I imagine the side and rear glass weighs around 25-30kg. 800kg would be hard to reach, but it's doable I'm sure!

Lol lol well i weighed the gauges and stainless steel bar i had before and the new dash is lighter  due to me hacking it up 1 x coat of flock and good as new.
as for the engine the casing on the gearbox is lighter than the 5 speed box and due to the fitting it loses the master cylinder/servo in favour for a pedal box which is lighter and dont need the gearbox cradle now...

It could be even lighter this time around.... oh no!!!! gt30 thats a litle bit heavier.

All jokes aside ive been very picky with new parts, it should weigh near on the same if not lighter.... :o

Damn it, thought I had you there

Your car is going to be frightening mate :o :o

Just got Jay to look up the kerb weight of an RS1800 and its approx 960kg,

so I have shed 100kg, which tbh I'm quite chuffed with.

If I can get it down to 800kg I will happy :aviator:

Talking to a mate of mine tonight and he has a track prept. classic Mini,

that weighs 610kg :o , he said its mostly Carbon fibre body panels :Q

James, there still a fair bit more to come out so I will just keep removing it
I will probably start to lighten the front bumper, front fogs, spots will come out on track day days as well, Some of the days I won't have the passenger seat in.
So are you running yours on track at Combe in April on the action day ???

Spinx, I always do :D :D

My old XR2i was great fun on track only 110 bhp but my mate with his 147 gta Alfa couldn't get past me and he had 250 odd bhp

So are you hoping to be at Combe in April mate or are you off to Santa Pod for the 2 days, we normally drive straight on from Combe to Northampton, stay in a Travel Lodge then drive on up to the Pod on the Sunday morning.

Best way to reduce the weight of the front bumper is ditch the fogs and lamps then with a linishing disc and a grinder remove all of the foam backing.

once you get about 1inch through you will find a steal plate which braces the front bumper, that gentleman is where the weight lies :D

Had mine weighed recently, just out of interest:

869 kg

Thats fully stripped with a half dash (heater removed etc). It does however have a 6 point welded roll cage with door bars, 2 bucket seats, a 2.5 ltr fire ext and a 2ltr zetec under the bonnet. Havent stripped any sound deadening out as yet. Still have glass windows and OEM bonnet/boot.

Est power is 150bhp so power to weight already is looking good enough for me for now. Goes like stink too.

Only downside is i'm spending the next 6 months in helmand province so still cant get the bugger on track. Arrse!

i think you should be able to get rid of a fair bit of weight if you get the drill out and start cutting large circle shaped holes in non structural parts, inside of the boot, doors etc

Thats on the cards Henry

Well more progress today, even though it was brass monkeys where I was working on it

First off was a change of wheels

Old

Image

New :Q
Image

I'm going to get these powder coated anthracite.fitted them just to see if I had any rubbing, and there is none, even on full lock :D

Next I finished scrapping all the sound proofing off interior ended up like this;

Image

Once the Carbon roof is fitted the interior will be painted Pacifica

I then removed the bonnet catch including the top part which is welded to the front panel;

Image

After

Image

Also removed the rear wiper and motor. had a good day today :aviator:

So I now reckon the weight is down to about 845kg :Q :Q

Picking up my cage tomorrow, more pictures then 8)

:D
