Ideally the bellhousing, so you retain the far better black top sump

Either Diesel or pre-Duratec Ka, mate. The bottom 3 or 4 holes will need modifying to suit the ST sump, but as the majority of the bellhousing bolts up anyway, it's a pretty easy job for the welder/fabricator.

I'd rebuild with different ratios, mate. The Ka ratios are pretty low, especially with PAS.

It does 60 in second on standard ratios apperantly, which is pretty important to me. Not worried about top end tbh

cant remember if the Ka uses the same gearbox mounts as a mk4/5 fiesta

but if it does, it will only fit the ka or the mk3, not both

the mk4 uses a hanging mount and torque stabiliser, the mk3 has a cradle as you know, but last time i looked at a ka, it has the same running gear as a mk3?

continous driveshafts and all that???

I have no idea what you are talking about.

You talking about driveshaft mounts? If so there isnt a mount on ka block or anything, and i wont be retaining it on the st170 block. Will use Ka box and Ka driveshafts, just with a lsd fitted to the box.

I am going to use the Ka ratios first up and see what it does up to about 100 - 110 as this is what will matter for 1/4miles and hopefully will do 60 in second with these rations and 15s.

Car is mainly being built to be fun on the road, but not topspeed stuff, f**k 140 in a Ka

I can confirm the box I bought is totally wrong so Brian is having that for the Fiesta, hopefully get him into the 14s with lsd, should be low 14s with the LC set up right and nitrous too. Won't know until next year now, as no more Pod till then.

I have hopefully lined up a rst lsd to go into the ka box now.

To be honest, Dave, my box does 60 in second, which I always thought would be helpful, but now I've totally thrashed it to bits with various boxes, my old XR2i 16v boxes were soooo much better (ratio wise, not strength wise!)... They were slightly shorter, needed 3rd for 60 (probably did 55 to 57ish in 2nd), but it felt quicker and I know it would easily have done 60 quicker than the 6.9s I was doing at Bruntingthorpe. From talking to Ryan at Ford Fair, the Escort GTi/Si gearboxes sound like they have similar ratios. I'm sure there are probably others that use the same ratios, but obviously you need something stronger than the old BC gearsets

That said, it could be a completely different story using an ST170 lump... But I think if you're aiming for 0-60s and 1/4 mile times, a shortish box will be more helpful :)

Tried the 15s on today, the fron will need the same 15mm hubcentric spacing as the dirtbox fiesta did, and maybe a play with the brake hose brackets too. The rears dont need anyspacing to fit but do need a bit to bring them out, not sure how much as its getting a sportka beam and the hub spacers, so will address that at the time.

The rear is spaced 10mm in the pics.

mk6 fiesta mate, yeah will clear st150 brakes that are going on. I am not too sold on them at the mo, they work well on the fiesta but not sure on this, I fancy the Oz racing rally wheels, but need wider tyres as the are 7j and would prob have even more fouling issues than these! plus more money!

Also got new bonnet catch and cable, and clips for the bumpers today, need to remove bumpers to make sure all is well behind them!

It looked like they needed quite a bit off, the callipers were catching on the welds on the inside of the wheel. Also to take into account was that we might of got it to clear, but if the callipers/wheels expanded from heat wether it could of caught once on the road while driving.

mk3 mondeo calipers, st170 discs and 15" zetec s wheels can be done with shaving of the caliper,
but not sure about the steels though?!?

i'm not overly impressed with the mondeo caliper setup compared to the st170 setup,

i think the st150 brakes with ds2500 pads would be bang up for the job!

I suspected this may be the case, I did wonder if the Mondeo pistons were smaller than the ST.

280's will be more than enough for 130bhp mate

my 260s handle my 130bhp fine, even more so with the uprated discs :)

so id say uprated discs/pads with 280s will be fine! :D

whos having 130bhp? not me tbh

I will run st150 with standard discs and pads first off, as i already have them, and suspect they will be up to the job.

The st170 brakes wont fit under these, even with grinding. I have got them under 16s with the casting marks ground off before.

LSD and long studs on the way now :)

Got the engine and box ready to come out today, ran out of light in the end, hopefully get it out wed afternoon and the st lump test fitted thursday.

Also removed the bumper and arch liners, found a bit of surface rust in arch but nothing that cant be sorted easily at this stage.
