Ka Turbo- 6/9/08 ka gets let loose at castle combe!!!!

Postby garyhurn77 on Sun Feb 17, 2008 9:04 pm

16Many people know of my love for for ka's, so when this came up for sale recently i couldnt resist. this car is the reason i built my silver ka, it was and still is a kind of icon with in the ford ka community :D

it was built in 2002-2003 i believe by lee blake, built for his girl friend it was featured in fast ford in 2004, was tuned to 187bhp 202ft lbs, it has changed hands a few ties all of whom have been females.

the car has been in a little bump causing a bit of damage, but nothing that is not easily repairable, ov er all the condition of the car is very good interior needs a bit of tlc and a clean, but over all very hapy no rust, all the wheels are good not kerbed, tyres are all good.

engine has just had a full rebuild (1,000 miles ago along with a new hybrid turbo), new radiator, new exhaust section :)

the plas for the car are to repair get it mot'd and use as an everyday car then use the silver ka for track and strip action mainly fair weather use :)

here are some pictures

i did the worst thing anybody can do when buying a car, that is agree to buy it pay for it with out even going to see the car, this is an icon car to me and many others and it was a risk i was willing to take (its a risk that has paid off as it is very good) i agreed a fee on the 14th feb, paid money into her account the 15th arranged for it to be collected on a trailor and delivered on the 16th :D

and the damaged area

Image

i have a new rear beam to fit tomorrow that will get the car rolling in a straight line instead trying to drift every time you move it!

2 x new racing arches are on order

and its boked into the bodyshop for next weekend hoping to get it mot'd tax'd and road legal by a week monday :)

i will also be having the car set up at some point not shore where to go , the car has o history or being set up checked over since lee had it chipped and set up in 2003-2004

i want to make shore its all hunky dory

also i am fitting a few gauges as the temp gauge currently over reads by 20 degrees, rev counter does not work, no boost gauge currently

more progress to follow :D

Postby garyhurn77 on Wed Feb 20, 2008 8:25 pm

well had a good few days on the ka, the main aim was to get the car rolling in a straigh line!

a new rear beam was ordered and promptly delivered, myself and will started by emoving the old beam and you can see jus how bent it was :o :o :o

Image

the rear shoes and rear brake cylinders were not much good on the salvage beam so i swapped them over from the bent beam this has not long had a rear brake overhaul whihc was handy :)

Image

the rear beam was attached and the rear shoes were torqd down

Image

back on 4 wheels and its straight 8)

Image

another picture showing it all in line

Image

then it was time for a test drive, and to say i was dissapointed was an understatement, it wouldnt rev as it came on boost it would misfire, we both thought t was due to lack of fuel as the light was on, so we went to petrol station and filled a jerry an , second time still the same, so i drove it to the garage to try a set of new plugs and leads from my silver ka (genuine ford leads and cosworth 071c spark plugs) this istantly cured the misfire and it was able to run boost, 1 mile up the road however the battery light came on and it appeared that the alternator has failed :(

but this will be replaced tomorrow, also there was no coolant in the system only water so that was drained and filled up with coolant!

how ever despite the set back it went extremly well, couldnt give it full throttle but when i did try to get some power down it was very very quick indeed!

i ve ordered some beiges for it and it'll be going for a set up very son and we can see what its making

over all im over the moon, bodwork next jus waiting for the racing arches to arrive :D

The lowering spring on top of the compressor looks really knackered.

yeah the colour is alot different, my ka is bmw estoril blue from the m3's and adams was a ford blue from the new ka's and focus's and was alot brighter! it looks alot better in real life the pictures make it look very pale for some reason!

little update alternator was removed yesterday afternoon and will be back today after a recon :) i also need a new belt as it spat it off for some reason :-? :-? will try another belt and hopefully it'll stay on! once that is done it'll be taken for body repairs and then it'll be back on the road :D :D :D

then a set up before i start driving it

That's a bit of luck!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this car built from a damaged shell?
IIRC It started life as a lightly damaged standard car that was built up to this awesome spec.

yeah i came across it after about 10 minutes of it coming on ebay, i rang her up and we agreed a price lol i had to have this car :D the damage looks worse than it really is, how ever i dont belive the girls sotry of how it happened but thats irrelevant now, its going to the bodyshop today all being well, they can asses the damage and get on with fixing it!

i ve also booked the ka in for a set up with interpro, they are 20minutes from my house and have a wealth of knowledge on rs turbos and cosworths so it should be in good hands!

alternator was fitted today with a new blet and is charging well :D im slowly working through my list of todo's
