thought i best update

the blue ka was put up for sale but i got messed about by 6-7 people, in the end i decided to keep it along with the silver one, after the rolling road tune it was noted the std t2 was at its limits at 177bhp and an upgrade was needed to get any more power!

i then saw a stage 1 turbo technics hybrid turbo for sale on passion ford, apparently mint and only rand for a few miles, boughtit for £240 it arrived and looked brand new on start up it smoked i thought it was just the oil burning off as always happend, but it never stopped, gradually got worse and worse until i got pulled over by the police asking why my car was on fire  i later found out it had soat the oil seals out and thats why the guy (NEWTON on pf) decided to sell, i then removed the turbo and sent it away to midland turbo for inspection, the turbo was only running 10psi held but was ALOT quicker than when the std t2 was on so power was up even at 10psi,

i then had a phonecall a few days after collection saying it would need a full rebuild, including a new wheel, shaft, seals and new 360 degree bearings, the work was carried out and the turbo arrived all fresh and fingerscrossed non smokey today :)

please excuse the poor quality it was using my works phone

Image

Image

the ka looking very sorry for itself in bits

Image

Image

and the result

no smoke :D

Image

i plan on getting a new sump with an oil drain to get around the poor system as std, also a new 2.5" down pipe is going on tomorrow, also i orderd some new focus st170 calipers so i can finally get rid of the std ka brakes it was running :oooh:

i am very happy, if you need a recon turbo then i would recomend MIDLAND TURBO excellent and friendly service!

once i sort the little bits on it, will be back down at for-tunepve for another tune up and have the boost turned up to around 14-16psi depending on injectors etc maybe touch 180-190 now :D

cheers

well been spending again on the ka but it has been worth it, i had the old syetm ripped off, as 1/2 of it was mild steel and std tiny down pipe, and other half was a scorpion frst exhaust, so off it came i now have a 2.5" system from the turbo back using cnc bends for the down pipe to improve flow, and a single 3.5" outwardly rolled tail pipe, looks fantastic if you ask me :D

well what a weekend i ve had

left wales 5am for blackpool and a mapping session with motorsport developments, 180 miles into the trip and the temp gauge starts to rise to around 85-90 (normally sits on 80) luckily enough services were 1miles away, gets to services opens bonnet only to find my radiator leaking , looked like a few stones had taken a liking to it. rings rac and they say eta of technician 45 minuts so my brother and i go and make our selves comfortable in the services cafe.

50 minutes later the phone rings "hello gary its dave the rac guy im with the ka now", out i trots to be met by the most welcoming guy you could meet. he has a look and gets some instant metal, lets it go off and re fills car with coolant and then bleeds the system, job done we were on our way in less than an hour after he arrived. :D:D:D:D

Image

Image

got to blackpool at around 10-10.30 (booking time was 9) was welcomed by will another friendly and helpful chap he even called us a taxi so we could spend the day viewing the delights of blackpool

got a call around 12 , after doing a few checks and then pressurising the system the dump valve was leaking heavily. it was removed and blanked off.

has some lunch in a local pub, then heads back to msd at around 4pm, to be greeted by will, "car is going well boost is currently bring raised to 18psi" off he trots, stu and will head off in the car to check the fueling and to make any more adjustments needed, they come back around 20-30 minutes later, "we have a slight problem your fuel pump is locking up at anything over 16psi in 4th, we have had to hault proceedings until a new pump is fitted or it will melt"

but " she does go like a rocket"

good and bad then but as soon as he said that a new pump was ordred with graham goode racing (uprated escort cosworth item) will do plenty. untill then boost will remain at 16psi

Image

Image

they even got chnace to get some stickers sorted

Image

i will be getting the pump fitted asap, then going back up to have the apexi avcr set up and try and get 20psi out of it :D

finally saturday was spent cleaning the car ready for ford fair

early start again sunday, silverstone was the destination :)

Can the t25 hybrid deal with boost above 16psi? I'd have thought it was starting to reach its limit at about 180hp???

i could fit a t3 but why it does want i want to at the moment its very quick i dont tend to rev the car more than 5k anyways so the t25 is still holding boost to that (t3 will hold boost higher up) it means a new rad, new exhaust down pipe, i estimate it to be around 190-200bhp currently whihc is plenty if this t25 failed for any reason then it would be a t3 but why fix something that is not broken

only asking as I'm thinking of going T3.

Why does the rad need to be modified?

the t3 sits where the ka rad is currently so it needs a custom rad made! there is no room to get it in on the std cradle!

Im gonna have this problem :( Apparently there are a few ford radiators that are longer and not as tall that might be a good option for the ka.

Any further details on what kind of modification would be required? I wouldnt mind finding out about fitting a T3 on mine, as its on a standard t2 which is kind of at its limits above 12psi.

Garry I've just been reading this page of the topic again and wanted to ask you about your radiator. The last time i saw Blakeys Ka it was running a new standard radiator but one of the 15mm core ones (I think its 15mm, i know its smaller than was originally on the Ka because he showed us is and went "look its tiny!")

Both yourself and someone else ont he site have said their Kas run at about 90*C.

My Ka has the old standard radiator (i think its a 25 or 30mm core). Its a bit bashed and has some paint on it, but my Ka runs at 100*C all the time. I'm wondering if my rad its guffed and I should consider trying to pic up a newer one.

So, which radiator you got ? :) :P

Cheers
