Ka turbo.

Postby Michael! on Tue Mar 20, 2012 1:46 am

Hi, I'm mike and I've bought another s**t car to pull to piece and modify to my taste. I'll probably get bored along the way but who cares, heres the start of my project threads

And before the insurance questions and statements get made (they have a habit of popping up on my threads) its £1000 and the only reason for me getting this car is due to that low price.

It's currently a low mileage red ka that looks like this
Image
Image

The paint is s**t so it will be getting twatcanned in a few cans of halfords finest paint which I have yet to decide the colour of.

My plans are currently simple;
Rs turbo engine (already sourced, money needs to change hands)
Coilovers
Either st24 alloys or some alleycats (which ever pop up first)
All around polybushes
Rs turbo front seats (same situ as the engine)
Smooth boot
Rear tints
Euro rear light
Strut braces

There's probably more but it's late, wish me luck as I will
Need it.
Oh and it currently has no mot and is a non runner. That being said I got it for £100 and never intended to use it as it is ;£

:-? it wont be £1000 to insure once a RST engine is in it....

SportKa rear lights will be easier to find that Euro lights and do the same job ;)
(reverse on them is in the bumper)

dont spray it, will look gash and to much work, that paint should look fine after a good mop renovation (mop £50 silverline item, cutting paste £10 3M)

doesnt look so bad apart from the alloys :P

why not just stick with the 1.3 and keep things cheap, them 1.3s are ample enough for plottering around, i stuck a year and half with one :oooh:

Cos maybe he can afford the insurance, the parts and maybe, just MAYBE, wants to have a turbo'd Ka.

All the best with the conversion bud. Turbo'd Ka's have been around on here before and go like litle go karts!

Get the engine in with the coilovers, get some decent brakes too(they weren't on your list  ) with the st24 alloys and leave it as it is! Nice little sleeper! :D

these are good little cars, my sisters had 2 now and i cant fault them other than the sills seem to rust quick.

please dont get bored and start doing stupid mods you'll regret like a jap paint job on the roof, smart subtle mods, lower it, alloy it, polish it, and keep it driveable.

thankyouplease :D

Updateeeee!

So ive been playing, unsure as to the future of the shell to be honest, pictures can do the talking.

It's pretty much like this all along the rail...
Image

And these two holes I pushed through with my finger
Image
Image

There's other surface rust around the rear axel mounts, that's the worst though... The front arches and footwells are surprisingly good going off the rest...

The person that owned this before is going to have his head kicked in as he told us he would easily get £900 for it. It was my mate who gave it to me's uncle. He is no longer a friend.
Image
That is a coat hanger and exhaust putty, we've come to the conclusion that this was given a snidy mot last time round...

eugh, give the inner sills and chassis a good beating with a hammer, if theyre solid you could replace the sills or plate them, but if this is gonna be a long term project, either do it right or get rid now :(

ahh the joys of buying a car

Put your arm up behind your back bumper, under the rear lights and check for rust there. I've had to weld loads of Kas up there. And when i say weld, on many occasions its more of a fabricate and replce the lot..........

Does seems alot of work there, but it was cheap.

See how much it would cost to replace the rusty bits, if not weigh it in and find another shell.

I like the idea of a Ka turbo, just maybe not for this shell......

I bet once the rear bumper is removed, there is not alot of metal left, seen this a few times on Ka's with this kinda rust.

Chin up tho, it aint all bad. :)

gets a look at the inner sills before you do any repairs michael! you wont be very happy if you spend a few hundred getting the sills re-done only to find it fails it mot on the rear inner sills or chassis leg, dont forget once up on a 4 poster and a torch in hand, you can see a heck of lot more then when its jacked on your drive!

May I ask why? Its the buyers responsibility when buying a car to check it over. Was he particularly into cars?

To cut to the chase, its f**cked mate, up to you wether to repair or get rid, but given the state of that rust it will only get worse.

very true, its that ebay buyers risk type thing

but in this case michael hasnt fully taken purchase of this car yet, so hes in the position to give it back as hes not paid for it yet

but to be fair, apart from the suspense of thinking you now have a car, you've lost nothing, just give it back to him and look for something else, if a KA is set find another, millions of them out there

but tbh a Ka isnt the best base for a RST conversion, you will need to fabricate mounts and the ecu/loom business is a bit of a ball ache, considering it would drop straight into a mk3 or mk2 fiesta

Its not just ebay, with a private sale of pretty much anything (including cars) its a case of buyer beware.

not good for a grand imo, i see a couple hundred quids worth of car there at best.

it dont look like a bad fix though, but as jony says, replace the sills or plate it up, if its short term, i say plate it, if its long term, cut it out and do it right.

or patch it up, get a mot on it, and shunt it out, and put the money towards a better one
