Kent Cams, and cambelt kits

Postby Yumyum33 on Tue Jul 12, 2005 1:02 pm

My XR2i (16v zetec) is going into the garage in Sept for it's annual service (including cambelt change), and MOT. While it is there though, I am going to get the garage to carry out some mods though.

Currently I only have a stainless steel backbox, the rest is standard.

I have sourced an RS1800 ecu, and am going to get the throttle body.

The next stage is cams. I was thinking of jumping straight to Kent cams rather than 130bhp versions, and have noticed you can get them either as a kit, or as the cams on their own. The major difference is the followers, which on their own are £200+, but if I was to use new non-Kent followers, would that be advisable, or would there be probs. I have found some for about £80;

The second query is regarding the cam kit, is there a better kit than the standard Ford kit, or is that suitable for a modified engine.

Thanks for any info you can give.

If your getting cams fitted always get a cam kit, depending on the spec of the cams you could get away with using standard followers and springs that if they are new with very few miles on them

Thanks.

That is good to know.

I am going to fit a new cambelt kit, I just wondered if the Ford standard is good enough, or whether I would be better off with some venier pulleys etc.

The cams I am thinking of fitting are FZ1802 fast road kent cams. So, new standard followers should be ok??

Thanks
