Lack of pedal feel

Postby gar mae on Sat Jun 19, 2004 10:04 pm

I've just got a new car with EBC 295mm discs, and there's not much pedal feel in the brakes, and the pedal goes down most of the way. Anyone else had the same problem with bigger discs?

I was thinking of using Dot 5.1 brake fluid, would that solve the problem?

Cheers

fluid wont make a difference to the feel,, unless the current system is full of air, and in that case just bleeding them would fix it.

bad feel with uprated brakes like those sounds like the master cylinder is at its limit, are they 4 pot calipers?

upgrading the master cylinder to one off a car with naturally bigger brakes or all round disks would likely improve it.

The pedal feels ok when you put your foot and the brake hard, but if you put it on softly it just goes all the way down, that why I thought bout using the Dot 5.1 and bleeding in at the same time.

BTW thay're not 4 pots

You need a bigger master cylinder by the sounds of it. There's a guy on here who sells Modified Escort servos to suit for about £40 I think. Look in the parts for sale under "Zetec S rear beam and Focus ST170 brake setup" to find him. :P

Hope this helps

Bigger discs shouldn't affect this. AFAIK the calipers are standard FRST ones on yours, yeah?

Could be very worn pads or air in the system.

Ade, the brakes are the same as when Paul had it. I'll try and bleed the tomorrow and will let you all know if it's better.
