Laser Eye Treatment
Hi all,
Has anyone had this done, and if so what was your prescription for glasses?
Only i have had 2 consultations at 2 different places, the first said they could correct my eyes but there's a chance that it could go wrong and fook my eyes actually make them worse, the 2nd said they could laser them no problem BUT all they could hope for was my eyesight with my glasses on without them after laser treatment (which is no good to me tbh as i cant see anything with my glasses on anyway )

The 1st was Optimax, the 2nd Accuvision, my prescription is +5 in both eyes, the way i see it, is whats the point in me paying £2500 to have exactly the same eyesight i have with my glasses, i want and need better

My mum's had this done, and in her words, it's changed her life. She's really dead happy about it. I would say you want to get it done properly by a reputable company/surgeon who you know is going to do it well and not 'conquering device' it up.
When you say you see no point in paying to have the same eyesight as you have with your glasses - surely your glasses' prescription should restore your vision to perfect 20:20? If that's the case, how can you say you want/need it better?

Can i ask where your mum had it done? when i went for the consultation at Accuviosion, they said i would never get 20/20 as i've never had 20/20 started wearing glasses at an early age, so even with my glasses on i cant see what i should be (work at college i cant read what is written on the projector screen) accuvision said that i would need glasses after treatment just for reading, where Optimax never they said if it woks they will be perfect BUT it could go worng and my eyes will be worse.

My brother had this done back in the days when you could only have one eye done at a time, about six years ago.
His vision was really bad (he couldnt see the 2inch high digits on the alarm clock without glasses) and had been wearing glasses for 18years -since he was 12.
He was told that his vision would hopefully be slightly better then with glasses, but he would probally need glasses for reading afterwards, and suffer from glare so would need sunglasses more then normal, e.g. during rain, mist and on the grey days.
He still says it was the best money he has ever spent.
So far (touch wood) his vision is better then he ever remebers it being, and hasnt needed any reading glasses.
He suffers slightly from glare, but only if hes tired or ill.
My other brother (and I) also wear glasses, and he has been looking into this recently, he have found that many different companys and surgeons contradict each other on what they hope the outcome can be.
Try asking they companys and surgeons if they have seen someone before you with a similar problem and ask how they turned out- he got a lot of information by doing this.

Yeah, my mum had it done by a private surgeon at the Nuffield Hospital in Southampton. If you really want the best treatment and the best chance of success, I'd suggest forking out the extra and going to the best people. I'm not sure I'd trust one of these places which advertise on the telly with my eyes. After all, this is your sight we're talking about!

I had this done in October with 'Ultralase' one of the companys that has been doin it the longest, prob bout 15yrs. http://my.ultralase-eye-surgery.co.uk/
I was -7 in one eye and -6.75 in the other plus astigmatism, they said i had like 80% of 20/20 vision and 96% of driving standard vision after treatment.
Because i was so blind, i also opted for the 'wavefront' treatment that yes was an extra £500 an eye but is a more precise laser and give a much sharper image afterwards.
Cost me £3000 all in all but they are always doin 3yrs 0% APR and its the best money i have spent!!!! There was no pain during treatment or after, regular aftercare check ups and all ya eyedrops, aftercare stuff ya need included in the price.
HAHAHA i sound like a saleswoman, but its just so brill and has changed my life, i used to live in my contact lenses literally!!! Would reccomend it to anyone

I just added up the price i would spend on specs and contact lenses for the rest of my life and the way it would improve my life. Yes it seems alot of money, but its sooo worth it.
You see companies offering it over ebay! for liek £600 an eye, but you get what you pay for!

I'd be so tempted by this if I could have it done under a general, there's no way in hell I could ever EVER cope with smelling my own eyeball burning, never mind actually seeing stuff going on however blurred it is
Not generally a squeamish person but when it comes to that I think i'd rather just carry on sticking my lenses in there

Lt Col Kojak Slaphead III :yeh but don't you have something coming towards your eyes like a scalple :|?
not quite, its a little gadget that sit on top of the vice holding ur eye steady, takes off less than 1mm
Stoned :How do they stop your eyes from moving about?
Cos it would suck a bit if someone walked in as your eyes were getting lasered and you looked at them
pimsle, see above, you can move your eye a little but only tiny movements....................................not like the logs i'd have in my drawers though
