Lightened Flywheel

Postby khrsfezzie on Tue Mar 13, 2007 2:01 am

I have recently been given a spare flywheel for my frst and i was thinking about getting it lightened, and was wondering how much metal to have removed from it? I don't want to have too much removed and risk it breaking up. Can anyone help me?
Thanx

Well this wont be something you could do yourself so you'd have to take it to a specialist, and they would know how much could be removed to still keep the strength. Not very helpful but sounds like your thinking of lightening it yourself?

Just because I keep talking about definetly doing it doesn't mean I'm actualy going to do it.

Ask yourself WHY you want a lighten'd flywheel. They spin up quicker so your rev range is extended but you loose low down torque. Might be a different story on a FRST but I decided against it with the N/A 2.0 Zetec as the low down torque was all I had.

Plus theres the horror stories of when they go wrong........

A lightend flywheel wont give more bhp but better throttle responce and as said, a higher rev range with the loss of some low down torque.

Absolutely pointless unless you are going to have the rest of the bottom end done.
