Link: keyboard + mouse for Carputers
Just found this magical combo of a mousepad and keyboard in one.

Those who are doing Carputers (it's on my list ) might find this keyboard very useful.

Maplin's Zippo EL301 keyboard is better - mice can be a pain in the backside to use in cars unless you're stationery.
The Griffin Powermate or a VGA touchscreen along with some decent Front-end software are probably the best way to control a carputer at the moment.
I'll do a guide on how to build and install a basic carputer system over the next month or so. Things are a bit busy for me at the moment so it may be a bit sporadic!
Cheers,
Andy

Andy, is Fluxmedia Linux based? I'm thinking of building a carputer for the next car...

No, unfortunately it's Microsoft .NET based but I hear there is a distro of Linux that has a version of .NET (well - a piece of software that allows you to use .NET software) which would allow you to run software like Centrafuse.
Bit of an ass if you're trying to build up a system using open source stuff I know - however perhaps you could try something like Roadrunner or similar instead - I just have a personal preference in Centrafuse but then I have a vested interest in it!
Cheers,
Andy

Mono is the software
I think VB.NET and C# have both been ported to Mono (100% compatible).

Sweet - thanks for the info. xiphon.
I may well include using that distro with the carputer guide - I'll have to see what parts I can pull together to make a carputer system - I've got plenty of stuff lying around!
Cheers,
Andy

Mono isn't a Linux disto, it's a project.
Most distributions will have it either included in their packages (as some of their software requires it) or it will be easy to install.
For more info about Mono, here's the website -> http://www.mono-project.com/

dontpannic :Thats not bad then, I was just wondering... So you have to wait until Windows boots up first? lol
Yeah, the car front-end software is basically a full-screen application, which is configured to run when Windows boots to the desktop.
If you're carputer is coming out from standby/hibernation, it doesn't take that long.
For more info on carputers, check out http://www.mp3car.com - they've got plenty of useful information in their forums.... and also a fantastic gallery in their Forums too.
There's one member who hooked his 1989's (i think) Porsche up to a Linux-based carputer - very impressive, from a technical point of view!

That'd be OK, I suppose if the unit went into standby that shouldn't leech too much battery power. I'm thinking of building one for my next car...

With a mini-itx system using a DC/DC PSU the standby power (if you suspend to RAM) is about the same or slightly less than the power consumed by an aftermarket alarm.
I'd recommend removing the fuse from the power line if you're going to be leaving the car for anything longer than 2 days though, just to be safe!
Cheers,
Andy
