I had a set of mc-guard ones. The key broke(Snapped) and I got a replacment, only for the replacment not to fit perfectly. Went back to the shop and went thorugh all the boxes they had, and the number for the key i originaly had in every box was the same key that just didnt fit. In the end we just knocked the key onto the lock but only got one off before the key one again broke.

I might add, when the key brakes, it also broke the lock which left like the lowest bit of metal holding my wheels on which couldnt be removed by 3 garages as it was right inside the wheel. I did manage to get one of the other nuts off with a nut extractor thing, but that did damage my wheels. I ended up having to take the drums off and anglegrinding out the back of the stud and knocking it through.

Put simply, they are very good but in the shop make sure that other keys with the same number fit. I think i overtightened it which bust the key, but it doesnt say in any of the papers that come with it that overtightening will brake it, so just be careful about that!

Just because I keep talking about definetly doing it doesn't mean I'm actualy going to do it.

ive been looking at some alloys which im really intrested in, but the nut doesent fit right inside and it looks like its accessable on the part that tightens against the alloy.

it seems some of the alloys i would buy, are just to stealable for my liking.

its not that reassuring knowing that i can use other keys to remove my own.... nuts :S

when tightening your wheel nuts up it should be doneto bout 120lb torque

there is another way of getting them off if they have like a hollow middle but there c**ts if they dont budge

for anti locking wheel nuts arnt you supposed to tighten them using a torque wrench and tighten them to whatever the booklet/box watever says, because theyre made of a soft alloy or something

My booklet said nothing, and they did shatter, causing HUGE problems!

jayc, you can use other keys yes, but the thief would have to find the right one to use, there are probibly more than 60 combinations of keys, i doubt theyll be walking around with them.

Many locking nuts are all much of a likeness. The McGuard ones are good. What you need to bare in mind is alloy theft isn't the problem it used to be. If the scum want your wheels they tend to take the whole car rather than worry about locking nuts

Standard Ford are McGuard aren't they? There what I use. Available from eBay pretty cheap, and you can easily get new keys from Ford if you ever lose one, as long as you have the thing with the code on it (and as long as you go to the right place that is).

Keys for any will fit more than one set 'cause they can only have so many different ones!
