basically they have a dish or sum type of effect on the top, where as normal piston are flat. creating a lower compression.
they are also stronger i think
again. i no nothing

Low compression pistons lower the compression during the compression stroke Stupid sentence Basically, the fuel mixture can get so hot from squashing it (Take a bit of Boyles' theory work....P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2) that it detonates before TDC, so low comp pistons allow correct ignition, and a better ignition too Ahh good old A level Physics

Just remember Boyle had some useful things to tell us about the behaviour of gases in compression My physics teacher was a simple man...once worked out bullets travel at 18 m/s

Fez Si Boy :Can you get these pistons for a Fiesta Si 1.6 engine?
You can, but you will only loose power..
low compression pistons are made for Turbo engines to run higher boost.
For an atmospherical engine higher compression gives more power (with a certain limit off course)
