Low Sitting Brake Pedal

Problem or technical question?

Low Sitting Brake Pedal

Postby Tweek on Mon Apr 22, 2013 6:52 pm

Since messing about with the pedal box to change the clutch ratchet, I can't help but notice the brake pedal sits rather low! The brakelight switch is also right on the edge too.

I've changed the white plastic collar/tube/spacer since that was cracked but it's still pretty low... lower than the throttle pedal!

Any ideas?

daft answer as you are more than capable of doing it right, but is the pedal box fully bolted back in, 2 bolts by the pedal are the brake bar bolts. might be why its sitting back a bit

Yeah, everything bolted up tight to my knowledge. Worth a re-check though!

Have you fitted a mondeo brake servo? This set mine back a bit, had to fit different plastic bit at the pedal where the rod joins.

Aha, yes! And I know the piece you mean, what did you replace it with? It concerns me the pedal is held up by plastic lol.

It was about 2 years ago I done this, from memory I got a few down the scrappy from rounder escorts (mk5?) or maybe even a mk2 mondeo. But I can't be 100% sure, might have even been a mk3.5 fiesta as I remember taking some PAS parts from that at same time. Sorry can't be definite on it, was a long time ago. I haven't fitted the servo since I reshelled as have gone down the aftermarket pedal box route.

Hope it gives you a starting point at least ;)

Think the part I mean is the 2 inch long white, flared plastic tube. Thinking about it again I might have just got the spring clip from the 3.5 fiesta, which I broke on mine.

Sorry to keep posting, another thing popped back into mind... I tried taking 10-15mm off the servo mounting brackets which brought it the actuating rod back to the position it needed.

I took too much out though it turned out and ended up putting 3mm washers between the bracket and servo. I think I still got them attached to my servo if you wanted me to post them up to try? washers might be attached too if lucky.

Fixed this now, I think/hope!

I got under the brake pedal and put a few washers between the thick plastic stopper/spacer and the larger side of the shaft and placed the stopper back on top.

This then made the white tube too long so cut about 5mm or so off the end of that and it's now sitting perfectly.

I'm not entirely sure what implications this will have (if any) on the brake function since the bar is further round than normal but we'll soon find out lol.

Cheers for the help, it gave me some ideas to tinker with :)
