Lowering the fez mk3.5 1,6 zetec sx(Finland)

Postby sebulba on Wed Apr 23, 2008 10:37 pm

Hi fellas, i'm new at the forum so...

I got this -94 mk3,5 1,6 zetec fiesta mallard green? that is 1,6 sx in Finland, I think it's nearest to your si but without the smooth bodykit and the very curvy seats...

My problem is that I bought these used lowering springs that have been on a xr2i-89-91 maybe and the guy said that they will bring the body down for 40mm, I installed them with the original ford shocks and the car sits down on the shocks, so there is no suspension in the front end of my car but the rear works out just fine with the originals...
Is the mk3 chassi so much different from the mk3.5 from 94-96 that it will fit but you can add a few cm more to the ground..

Now I thought that i'll buy just a set of shorter sport shocks but will the car lower even more as the shock is at the bottom already and the spring is really short and very soft..? The wheels that I have are escort gti 7spokes 15" and the tires 195/50-15 and they don't scrub to the arches but they are so close now without any suspension... What would you do, because I don't want it to bee any higher anyways...?

And another question, how do I know if my fiesta is jas gfj or whatever type...? Knowing it would help me buy the right stuff for it. :D
I would buy a bodykit from you guys but the sending to Finland costs so much that there's no point... And here no one builds any fiestas and we have propably 0 frst:s in the country... IT SUCKS... here people keep asking bout my car because they don't believe it has a zetec engine, even the part stores are wondering and they find nothing for it... :D

The springs should fit ok. It sounds to me that the lowering springs are more than -40mm and the car is now resting on the bump stops.

This is the sort of thing you need. Bear in mind that when lowering a car on standard shocks, then they have to be good condition to deal with decrease in height. With a 35mm drop there isn't too much need for shortened shocks unless you really want to, so if they do need replacing just get some standard ones.

Ok, thanks!
the problem is that I don't want the car any higher :D so I'll have to try shorter shocks because I think the shocks are at the bottom or then at the bump stops...
The original shocks are just fine, no leaks and they work nicely... I'll try to take the bump stops away and check that how low the chassi will fall with the springs I do have now... What manufacturer has some very stiff springs...?

I can tell you from experience mate that if you leave it that low it will handle like a camel with three legs, mine was nearly dangerous! Jack it back up to -35mm and it will be much better.

You may be right, with these bump stops the car has it cant get lower even with the new shocks so...
The best thing to do is to buy a new spring kit -35 or -40mm that really fits, now when you lift the car so you can spin the front springs around the shocks, they really dont fit...

Same problem I had with the spring dislocating, -35mm springs required. :D
