LPG frst?
Has anyone heard of a performance car running on LPG? Drive past a station that sells it and it's half the price of unleaded, just wondered if it was something that had been explored and experimented in faster cars than the 1.0 Micra my old driving instructor took me out in

I found a site that said the octane rating of LPG is 110, Using a fuel with a higher octane allows an engine to be run at a higher compression ratio or more of an ignition advance without having problems with knock so in theory would be better
dont know much about LPG so i'll shut up now and wait to be correct by "Mr" or "Mrs know it all"

my mates subaru impreza has been converted for lpg. it's only the 1.8 auto mind so it aint exactly a performance model. must say though you can notice a slight difference between flooring it on gas and flooring it on petrol. it seems to be a lot more aggressive on petrol but a bit more smooth but lacking the grunt on lpg.

Poo thing is the conversions they do usually have the gas tank stuck somewhere very inconvenient like the boot rather than converting the original petrol tanks to hold gas.
I had also thought about how 'NOS' was used to cool the air aswell as increase the oxygen to gain power, so you would have thought LPG would have the same effect as all compressed gases are very cold(?)... Aaaaand could the LPG being sent to where the combustion happens be kinda turboed too (if ya know what I mean). So the whole thing would be ultra condensed and therefore more efficient?
(I have no knowledge of the inner workings of engines so please excuse my ignorance! )
Cheers for the replies, glad i'm not talking too much outta my arse.

My uncle had a V8 land rover that was converted to LPG. I'm sure he said that it had to be started on petrol then it can be run on LPG, thats why I think they dont convert the old tank to carry the gas.

I've seen somewhere on the web a 400bhp subaru impreza runing LPG.
Dont know whats the point because even runing on petrol you cant get alot of millage done on one tank... LPG would be even worst!
Want more power? Stick with petrol!
