M4X WW - ZT Project - For Sale / Breaking (soon!)
M4X WW - ZT Project - For Sale / Breaking (soon!)
M4X WW - Fiesta 1.1 to 2.0 16v Zetec Turbo Project
[Apologies for the long and boring first post]
Well, Where do I start? Most of you will probably remember my first car - A White 1.3 Mk3.5 which unfortunatley died in November 2006 after sliding on some ice into a tree..
It took me a year to strip and scrap this, I didn't want to see it go! I actually drove it to its resting place until the crane arrived..
I then bought a 306 runaround, then a Mk4 with a Puma lump in off a mate..
The Mk4 and 306 then went to make way for an ST24, as I was getting bored of the 1.7 and just wanted a Mk3 again. A Zetec Turbo engine came up for sale which I decided to buy so the ST24 went in favour of another 306 but an HDi!
So the hunt was on for a clean Mk3.5 as a home for the engine - It had to be a low miler and M reg or later for my plate. After looking at about 8 cars I found this two owner example at a Traders in Hitchin (this was about a year ago now!)
The car is an Azura, Which comes with NOTHING! and also lacks a sunroof which is a bonus. 1.1 with 50k miles.
Autotrader pics.. (note the plate, its actualy a 1995. and DTM = destined to move! its M4X WW now anyway)
And once home..
General cleaning of the car and engine bay started..
The first big job I did to the car, For some reason was to fit a Zetec S rear beam. I had one on my old car, So set upon finding another..
The car was relativley rot free, apart from a few scabs around the car..
I have never had any bodywork done on a car of mine before and I'm really fussy with it so this was the main reason the car sat for a year! After some arranging with Shaun, I drove the car to Dorset to a Ford Main Dealer who sorted out the rust. Cheers for sorting this out and the lifts Shaun!
Having the work done..
I dont have any pics of the finished de-rusting, But will get some soon!
Since the car has been back from the bodyshop I've been sourcing parts and stripping the engine bay when I've had time, in-between selling the 306 HDi run-about for a Saab 9-3 Aero!
I also started re-fitting the interior, With the seats removed..
I still had the carpet from my White car which was in better condition so this was cleaned with a wet-vac and re-fitted..
(excuse box, contains Ian Howell lower arms. I emailed him as soon as I heard he was trading again!)
The next purchase was some very good FRST seats and RS1800 doorcards from James/heeman10. Sad to see his car being broken but needs must. I am currently swapping the frames over from my 1.1 seats to get them fitted.
In regards to more interesting things, Mainly the engine. A mate and I removed a CTS Stage 2+ gearbox with Quailfe LSD from his ERST thats been off the road for a while. He has started a new project and plans to use an MTX75 so I bought the box off him..
Plans are in motion to get the Zetec Turbo installed fairly soon, So progress from that will be posted as and when it happens.

Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
Thanks, Its taken me long enough to get round to posting this up!
The engine has been owned by a couple of members off here, Its not mega power and I don't know much about the spec's of ZT's but basically its got Focus RS pistons and rods, arp big end bolts and hybrid T3 turbo. It was built by Ian Howell and should be good for 270bhp.

Cheers for the replies people. Will hopefuly speed me up a bit!
Ian, If Marc is MOONDUST_FRST then yes, he sold it to Mikee I think, then to Paul Ripley who didn't use the engine but who I got it from!
I wasn't that fussed about colour Ian, some I would of turned down but red isn't that bad really. TBH if it was an awful colour, but really clean I would of had it!
I didn't want another white one on principle really

I got some Pro Race 1.2's off a mate cheap, Not sure what they will look like yet but they are being done in satin black and are light so they will do for now.
I have some Fiesta ST brakes to go on, Again - will do for now and see how I get on. Not chosen suspension yet.
Jon, Getting the mechanicals done is my main prioirty. Not really thought about the looks yet. Its still on 13" steels at the moment

Nah was just saying, Ive not been catching the bus round etc! I'm glad I have a Mk3 again too. Once I got it though I just didn't seem so fussed about getting it done, as I was worried I wouldnt find a clean enough one - so when I did I just sat on it!

Ah, I was looking at the last picture. Did you have a new tray fitted or just painted?
Is that an original Motorcraft battery (looks white in the pictures)?

It was just prepped and painted. It was nothing major - Just needed sorting.
The battery may have been motorcraft, It was shot though and is now in the bin!

Yep thats it Tom, Other bits were where the slam panel meets the front panel on the uprights by the headlights, Had started a little bit. Also on the front panel a tiny bit behind the bumper really which was probably a stonechip. Had it all done anyway.

Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
i did mine a few weeks ago mate, its easy! just get TDC on piston 1 ether with a clock or there is a indent on the bottom pully that lines up with a marking on the sump! and then i used some 5mm flat steel to hold the cams in the right place. then place your new belt on and working anticlockwise from the bottom pully start tightning back up again!!

Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
I swear when a guy did the belt on my old 306, he put tip-ex marks on the cam teeth etc, then on the same place on the old belt, then transfereed these to the new belt once the old was removed - then re-fitted everything back where it was. This sound normal?
