M4X WW - ZT Project - For Sale / Breaking (soon!)
Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
Mark, I've not really said much about the exterior but its been years now so I doubt anyone cares! The car will never have any other bumpers than the ones on the car now, I want it to be a sort of 'sleeper'
Nick, not sure. There is still a fair amount to do and problems to get round!

Dave_B on Mon Jan 11, 2010 8:00 pm :max, on the mount issue, put some washers on the gearbox cradle mounts to spread the load. with the torque this engine has produced and is capable of you dont want to pull those bolts through the cradle.
mines done it and your engine did it in mikes car as well.
Just quoting this to try and remind myself to do it!

Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
Just thought I'd add that I've painted the Front Hubs and Lower Arm Carriers, ordered and recieved a couple of spares for my Gaz coilover kit and am now waiting for some time to fit this lot back on the car along with some IH lower arms I bought a couple of years ago
Can I lower the car down without drive-shafts? I'm not sure if the hub nut holds the bearings in or anything!
Also, What is the best way to get the studs back in? I removed them to replace but they are not too bad and speedshack quoted £2 each plus vat!

Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
It isn't 100%, it was good when I got it and I spent a fair whack getting a lot sorted out but its still not perfect Fact is the car wont get used a lot and will never be a show winner as I want to use it properly and its only a 1.1, not an FRST or anything so should do the job OK.

being a 1.1 is better in my eyes, being drastic with a genuine RS isnt always the best for them, originality and all that

Yea I've always said I'll never own an FRST, I prefer it this way.

Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
easiest way to refit the studs.
slot it in from back , put wheel nut on and tighten up until stud is pulled all the way through
undo nut - repeat process

if you use a proper alloy wheel nut with built in washer you wont damage anything

unless the thread starts to strip, then your fcuked, and will have to replace the stud again.
is the hub out the hub housing? if so its easy, if its in the housing still, then you can still beat them in from behind.
as for the hub nut, yeah, it holes the bearings together, best off having a cv joint through the hub and nipped up (if the engines not in and your not rolling it about it will be ok without the cv joint in)

yes mate - make sure you have the retaining snap ring on the end of the cv joints or they will fall straight out again

ah, well if you can take the hubs off beat them in, you can do it with the nut, but i would still be wary of it damaging the thread

Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
they shouldnt fall off tbh max, just have a look, if there missing, get new clips.
no reason why it wont fit the box, just make sure there clicked in other wise oil will spill out, or if its in enough to stop that, it will pop out at some point, so make sure its clicked in fully and your be fine

You'll notice if their not in max. You can pull then out without the clip and I normally use a bolster to get them out when the clip is on!!
When will you finish it???

Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
Just thought I'd post a couple of progress photos of recent developments, I'm fairly embarrassed by the Front arches but I've done it for a purpose and 75% of it will be covered. I'm really just trying to get this thing on the road now and am going with the 'It’s just a Fiesta' mentality as I want to drive it.
Most areas will be touched up as and when I can get it on a ramp etc. Flash makes it look worse also I'm also quite annoyed that I forgot to get new lower arm carrier bolts, I really needed these in to make progress but will probably order some - just at the stage where I'm fed up stopping constantly to order and wait for new bolts for everything!
I've just built up the front hubs and GAZ coilovers so have those to go on along with freshly painted driveshafts, Mk6 ST front callipers and brand new discs and pads from Ford (thanks to Clark, again)

Looks like a gearbox cradle from a small capacity engine model, probably brackets too? Take a look at a Zetec cradle and gearbox brackets as the Diesel, HCS and Zetec all sit differently, which may play a part in this.

Bonnet raisers are your friend
dont get inch thick ones - get custom spacers and bolts
As mark has said regarding cradle and mounts - i hope you have got Rs turbo or xr2i gearbox cradle on this ?
