M4X WW - ZT Project - For Sale / Breaking (soon!)
Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
yea looks fine
just make sure the syphon bag dont hit the bottom of the tank when you put sender back in. If it does just twist it round to suit. The sender must go back in the same way it came out. Or your pipes wont reach

Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
Didn't see any names or anything.
My engine ran with this pump anyway so should be fine.
Clark, The swirl pot bit in my tank (the one I want to use as its less rusty) is slightly different to the FRST tank but I think its ok. The lines exit the pump a bit different, but again I have FRST lines from the car the pump came from so should be fine.
The pump only goes in one way doesn't it?

basicly yes, just be sure the pre filter bag on the gottom of the pump will in no way touch the sender float, if the over hang of the bag is float side, it could angle up and stop the sender reading when it gets low, this happened to me years back and it would read half way between the red and 1/4 and i ran out of fuel so had to drop tank and sort it

Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
The bag is opposite side so its all good, tank all painted up in crappy silver hammerite but should protect it a bit more than nothing.
Turbo is also on, finally which is nice and started with the inlet today but got bored quickly!
Also collected a few bits back from Dave after powder coating and here are the wheels..

Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
Nowhere!
Currently waiting on Vibratechnics to send me a modified engine mount. When that is fitted I plan on fitting the inlet etc, then ancillaries including your PAS setup.
Do I need a cooler? Was thinking of running a Mocal type oil cooler in the drivers side wheel arch (where the washer tank is on the other side)

Ahh, cool. I recommend something from a later Ford which will be cheaper and do the job just as well, either an auto transmission cooler or a PAS cooler. Plumb it in the return line.

I'll have a look around the scrap yard/ebay for something with decent input/output connections and some form of mounting then.

Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
Attempted to fit the second VT mount today, its still not right so I've emailed them and will await a response.
I'm going to really try and see this through, but after having the 540i for nearly two years the want for one of these is quite strong..
As long as I can still get a good one for not too much cash in a year or so I can wait!

That's why I'm finishing mine. I know I'd regret it later if I didn't.

My theory is I can buy other cars 'off the shelf' any time, so may as well do this now while I have it!

Finish it Max, you have the shell and most of the components, seems a waste to just give up when there will be M5's available for years to come.

Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
Is it the front or rear mount thats causing the aggro? Are standard ones not up to the job? Most of the work is done by the gearbox mounts isnt it? I know obviously space is tight and this will have quite a bit of torque etc

Max, I've had *that* hankering for around five years now.

OK, You have the blue one and I'll have this..
Would rather it had a white interior though!
On topic, I removed the offending metal from the VT mount today and got it fitted! I've sent them some more photos so they can make a third attempt.

Still blue. TBH I'm not that pernickety about colour, I'd just like a big, fast, comfy ubercruiser. Hence the hankering for an M5 or RS4.
Good going though mate, always satisfying to make progress - I'm looking forward to getting the golf in the air tomorrow and cracking off the exhaust downpipe so I can remove the head. Whoop!

Re: M4X WW - My Zetec Turbo Project
Back on topic, I've done a few bits and bobs to the car this week/today.
I removed the rest of the front suspension to get the lower arm carriers painted and ready for the fitting of an ARB. The hubs need painting too and I've painted an s-brace to go on. I would get all this stuff powder coated but I'm not going for any trophies or anything just want to get the car running!
We fitted the exhaust (loosely) just to see how things are and got the alternator and PAS pump fitted.
A couple of crappy photos..

The tip? Yes its a bit big - looked more normal with an XR/RS bumper but I won't be bothering changing it until everything else is done.
To be honest, the whole car will be a bit of a laugh as there will be an inter-cooler hanging out the front etc etc so the exhaust will stay for a while!
