MANJ: Refresh
hello every1.for starters you all no this car very well so i hope i can carry on moving it forward slowly. If you dont no the car is now mine cheers to jon just a quick list of things to do really and will update slowly as i get things moving so bare with me:-
brakes, repaint(im thinking full outside just so its all done and finished with),fuel gauge, flock or powder coat the show cage black, flock the dash and thats all thats planned for the momment.
id like to think the brakes and repaint can b covered with the money ive got saved to one side and the other bits are minor jobs so shouldnt b a issue.Either way i best get saving and maybe do the one thing i hate (overtime at work) Im looking forward to taking this on and hopefuly keep u all happy.if i wonder off please tell me im a idiot and not to do it lol

Re: MANJ: Refresh
plans sound great the brakes... im 99.9% sure its the setting up of the master cylinders or the master cylinders themselves..its a 100% nothing to do with calipers or fluid..finding somewhere or a guide for setting the cylinders up properly would be a good starting point and if possible find someone with the same sort of set up and compare the two

Wow, thanks - high praise indeed mate! Great to see she's still going and that another new, enthusiastic owner is taking the reins where Jon left off
The brakes were the part of the car that I was most disappointed with when I built it - I had no room for the original servo setup due to the location of the ST170 T/Body so had to resort to a bias pedal box. Unfortunatley I never got very good brakes from it and even with the addition of remote servo assistance, I still wasn't too happy with them.
The best way would be take all that out and perhaps start again with trying to start over again with a normal servo setup
Anyway, best of luck and hope you enjoy her!

Re: MANJ: Refresh
ok then thats the plan of action then flocked dash and cage to keep the twist to the car Also jimmy thats what im in the process of doing because like u say for what it has on it i was very disapointed.ive got the power to play just no brakes to help me play against some more modern cars.but like i said its on the list of to do's and im starting it saturday. While im on that gotta say thanks to my mate for opening his garage for me on sat so we can sort a few problems out taking time out of his day to help manj
so quick update i spose.Sat is seeing new clutch selector cables fitted as one keeps popping off with hard gear changes leaving me stranded also sort the rear lights out because at the moment the fog and reverse lights are on a total mix up and finally a full bleed of brakes to make sure theres no chance of it just being air in the system.yes i no probly to easy to be true but have to eliminate it before i start looking to much into it.
Thanks for all the comments and any opinions on upgrades ect will be good.AND NO IM NOT GOING TO TURBO IT OR SUPERCHARGE IT.ive got a pot of cash but the pot is that big im afraid to say
Final thing, had a good play with my mates astra vxr nur... addition and if i was able to get the gear changes how they should b and not nursing it into gear (to make sure the cable doesnt pop of box) i would b very close.sounds silly being a 08 car but the turbo lag on it is the window i had to put up a good fight.so watch out darren once the cars running sweet

Sounds good Mitch, nice to hear your cracking on already.... fingers crossed for an easy fix on Saturday, even if the chance seems slim Loving the idea about the roll cage, flocking it would look pretty awesome, what colour tho?? Dark i'd say ........... on a side note i found that cage quite handy to grip/hold onto when i was sitting in the back last night trying to keep up wih the astra ........... the Nurburgring has about 240bhp i think and imo, it was closer than some may think
Can't wait to get MANJ and my turbo side by side
jonyb4 :i didnt mean it in a bad way jimmy

Re: MANJ: Refresh
you going to swap the wires round for the fog light and reverse light or just fit a red bulb?
im not sure how it will go if the fog light is on the left for MOT though, worth bearing that in mind mate.
its the nature of the beast to have euro rear hellas

Will be a close race, the RST suffers from lag because of the T3 but if you rev it high then change gear you should stay on boost in every gear

Re: MANJ: Refresh
plans sound good and for around the 180 brake mark the car is surprisingly fast as for the rear lights i didnt have them on the car for that long so didnt get round to swapping wires around as for the gear cable they cursed me at ford fair on the 0-60 strip...ok if your not launching it hard but a pain if you are new ones are the way forward as luke suffered the same thing with his 170 box not long ago . if you race the vxr we need a video!!(private test track of course )

yh exactly hense why i let other people have the joys of them and either lend a hand or hand the paper over lol
just got price for dash and cage aswel to be flocked didnt think it was to bad:-
"To flock the dash alone it would be £60, i can do the dash and 7 pieces of trim for £100 ie glove box, centre console, heater surrounds, tunnel between the seats ect.
The show cage would be in the region of £40/50"
