Megasquirt ECU Fitted!Throttle Bodies Running!New Head!!PG10
You'd be surprised how easy it is!
The only thing the rolling road makes easy is holding at a certain speed/MAP.
You basically sit at a certain rpm?BAR, lets say 3000 rpm and 50kpa. On the realtime tuning, you see a green dot, showing you where you are on the Fuel map.
You press "F" so that you can adjust the nearest bin. Then depending on whether it is running rich or weak, you adjust the mixture using "Shift" and "Up arrow" or "down arrow".
He adjusted it rich as a start point, and was gonna dial it back in, but we didnt get to it. Thats where the datalog comes in. You compare the graph, and say you want to be 10% leaner, just go back to the fuel map and make the adjustment.
Ive tried to make my map smoother, as I always have the RR map on file to go back to!
When you getting round to getting yours?

Great stuff
Its on my list, and I think mmo is adding it to his list of things to do.
Hopefully when my insurance comes round for renewal in september I'm going to drop a 2.0 in and so will be using MS then I hope

To be honest, we didnt even finish fuel map tuning let alone spark!
Im happy with the results though. I plan on playing with it a lot myself, and in the meantime sorting out the throttle bodies.
Once I have done all that, I will go back with it set to RPM V throttle as apprently thats easier to tune.

Hi mate,
Its good! The car drives perfectly (touch wood). Idles better than before and pulls hard all the way. Plus, I can drive it lightly and get decent mpg out of it.
Im trying to source an ST170 inlet manifold so I can get my TB's on, and also a good Exhaust manifold.
Tuning wise, I have set it up good on the Megasquirt. Ive got it to start first time and idle great when cold. It idles around 850rpm without any problems.
I had a thought at the back of my mind that I would always need to adjust this or that but its been perfect. hasn't skipped a beat! Even when my O2 sensor went, there were no problems with driving it!
I'd definately recommend it as its soo easy and you get a load of control.
Something tells me you might already be on the case........

This should be coming tomorrow:-
On the MS front, I have been messing around with the maps. I revised the spark map and it feels much better.
But I did notice that my injectors were maxing out. Now I'm getting the ST170 manifold, I will either use injectors, fit the whole manifold or use it to fit my bike TBs.
Just exhaust manifold left.

Ah.
Ermmm.
I guess this will not be an issue with bike TBs but only if I use the whole manifold.
In what way does it work? Does it increase fuel? What adjustment does it make? It may be possible to program the MS to take on this role.
If there is no way to mimic this, and my bike TBs are not ready, I may just use the injectors in my existing manifold. This will sort my maxxed out injectors.

asad may i suggest RS2000 injectors in your current fuel rail.
might be worth doing while you butcher that st170 to fit your bike TB's
the rs2k injectors are good for 200bhp and are a simiar ohm rating to the fiesta/mondeo ones

I'll have a look into the cost of that.
Re:- fitting bike TBs. The manifold does not require any work. Just changing of the Fuel pressure regulator. Thats the great thing. Where you see it split and with the rubber pipes, thats how it is standard!
Only the bike TBs need spacing out.
Pics are from this thread, where richard has used this method. Its where I got the idea from:-
http://forums.turbosport.co.uk/bbs/show ... ge=1&pp=20
Is there a reason not to use the ST170 injectors in my fuel rail? Different type? Will not fit?
Thanks

yeah they are top fed (like the frst) and wont fit.
you need side fed injectors. rs2k ones can be picked up for 50 quid a set second hand.
i was gonna use them in the zetec turbo i was building

Usually DSI manifolds have butterflys in them that direct the air through the short or long tracts as desired. Control of them is by vacuum diapraghm actuator with solenoid or motorised actuator depending on the car. A solenoid one should be easy enough to get working with the MS if you have a spare output circuit (I'm sure someone must have written the code for this kind of thing). You could decide upon the rpm switch point by doing two power runs, one with the short tract only and one with the longer tract only (downside is you would need to have separate maps for each try). You then compare the two graphs and see where the cross over is, set the changeover at this point and create a hybrid of the two sets of maps to suit.
Hopefully I will have a similar task to do myself with a 4AGE engine that has TVIS on it.

Simon - I see what you mean. I dont think I'll get the RS2k injectors as I am looking to use this manifold very soon. I was thinking I could use the ST170 but seeing as I cant, Ill just wait until I have the whole manifold on.
Saliorbob - Thanks for the info. If it is indeed solenoid operated, then yes, MS could control it. I will have a look at the manifold when I get home. If it does have a butterfly, I may end up just leaving it open/closed as its only temporary.
My main objective is to get Bike TBs on. Use the complete ST170 manifold would just be the convinence of having the ST170 manifold working and have better injectors.
Thanks for all the info guys.

Thats a class way of fitting TB's!
Does this inlet have some swingy round thing? Rememebr looking at Excursions site about it.

Ahh yes, it's not butterflys in the ST170, pretty pics at http://www.mwstewart.co.uk/index.php?co ... vvt_engine

Right,
This was waiting for me when I got home! Big Box!
Fuel rail was seperate and a little oily :-
And heres a better pic of the rubber pipes, with the fuel rail off :-
Im not sure it will clear the brake bar or not... but will check later.
Plus, the Kawasaki TBs I have will not space out easily too fit.
So I'm gonna put them up for sale and try and source some with 90mm centres!

These arrived today!
Close up:-
Airbox removed!
Here its lined up next to the ST170 inlet:-
You can see its not centred:-
I then stripped all the bits I dont need, secondary butterflies etc :-
Here they are split up :-
And with the ST170 inlet sitting on them! :-
Back view :-
Will hopefully get a bit done this week and on the weekend. Need to size spacers etc.
I want to get them on and running before Trax, but I'm not sure if I will as I may be going away for work.

Cheers guys!
Should have more updates this weekend.
I have brand new 330cc Injectors on the way, for a good price....
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sets-of-Four-New- ... dZViewItem
I will be using the ST170 manifold after all, with an adaptor to improve air flow. Pics later.
All that will remain is a decent exhaust manifold
Then another trip to the rollers for a setup.
