Merde Agitation 106 Gti - For sale
Merde Agitation 106 Gti - For sale
Right, the story is as follows...
I used to own a diablo red 106 gti, which i sold to a mate about a year and a half ago. He put about 15k miles on it since then and generally "abused" it, but i found out the other day it had "stopped working" all of a sudden and it wouldn't start.
I got in contact with him and he said "you can buy it back if you want" - So I decided to go halves with another mate and buy it back.
We travelled the 3 hour trip to Oxford to pick it up with a trailer. We didn't really know what to expect when we got there, but we were umming and arring whether to tidy it up and make a bit of money, or fix it up and turn it into a cheap and fun track car.
Pics of it on the trailer after a stop off for lunch -
Very wet trip home -
Once we got home, we unloaded it off the trailer and tried a slow bump start, only to find out the engine was locked up... It wasn't looking good for a cheap fix!
So we decided to inspect a little further, spark plugs out and we were greeted with this plug in pot 1 -
Whoops!!
So then it was time to whip the head off, to see the extent of the damage. As soon as we lifted the head off we were fairly sure we had found the problem...
Yes, thats 7 bent exhaust valves, and 2 SNAPPED VALVES! All four pistons were scored (one was very bad) and it wasnt a pretty sight.
So that was all the dirty work this weekend.
Plans are now to source another gti engine, and hopefully get it fitted and ready for Castle Combe Action Day in September. Along with stripping/selling the leather interior, and making it a little more "track ready"

A new engine is being sourced - both of us searching every relevant forum we know of + eGay.
I'd love it to make it to Combe. Both of us have hopes that it will make it. R888's are on the list, but way down at the bottom at the moment!

Thanks Shaun, either way I will be at Combe - might have to take the other motor out on track though if it's not done in time.
Engine has now been sourced, will be picking it up Friday and hopefully fitting it on Saturday

Re: My Peugeot 106 Gti Track Car Project
Right, the original "pick up engine on Friday, fit it Saturday" plan really didn't work out (good old eBay...) So were waiting on another engine and then we will have to find time between me and karlos90 to get it fitted and running before Combe weekend.
So far we have fitted a passenger bucket seat and stripped the interior. No pics at present but we will update when there's more interesting news!

Re: My Peugeot 106 Gti Track Car Project
New engine sourced, and we picked it up last night in the most awful weather i've ever known. What made it more fun was standing out in the rain for an hour as when we turned up the guy hadn't finished (or really started) removing the engine from the car yet!
Got it home in one piece, although my car now smells of gearbox oil
Picking up some harnesses tomorrow, and then it's just finding the time to actually fit the engine before Combe in a couple of weeks time. The old engine is ready to be dropped out now, so it will only take a day of work to get it done.

Re: My Peugeot 106 Gti Track Car Project
Well, an update of sorts...
The car is now running!
Few pictures of our progress (although nothing exciting!)
Old bottom end out
Hole where an engine should be...
It got a bit dark but we carried on working!
However, although we worked through some dark, damp, crummy evenings to get the car ready, and even got the engine in and running a day or so before Combe, the power steering was siezed, and the brakes were terrible - so we decided it was best that the 106 stayed at home that weekend.
It's now taxed, insured and useable on the road. Although you have to plan a mile in advance if you want to brake! It feels very light and i think it will do well once we get it on track after the last few bits are sorted.
Next plans are to get some decent brakes on the car, and sort out a couple of niggly bits (power steering is now sorted) and hopefully do a few local track events before Combe in April 2011!
I spent a couple of hours cleaning the car up and making it look a little more respectable at the weekend, and this is how it sits now (if anyone is still reading and at all bothered!)

nice car mate the effort will be worth it. I had a vts and was planning to take that on track but losing my job ment it had to go, so my new plan is my 1.1 fiesta with a 1.8 zetec in with some cams -4-2-1 etc and a fresh rebuild what i am doing atm, then having it as a road car till can get a work horse then will be taking that out on track

How did you guess!
Yeah i'm lucky enough to (just about) be able to afford a normal daily car and with sharing the costs of this car with someone else it makes it that bit easier

Tbh i'm not finding it that fast, but i think i'm just comparing it to my daily drive, which is 200+bhp
I expect when it comes to track driving it will be plenty fast enough to start with. We shall see how fast it is when it comes to the next Combe action day when it goes up against one or two fiestas
I really wanted to give up when it got dark, but we were trying hard to get it ready for that weekend...

There quick but not as quick as everyone makes them out to be. My old RS1800 kept up with a friends 106 Gti. Saying that there certainly not slow.

Bring yours to Combe in April and we shall see
Saxo VTS has the same engine as the 106 gti. The handling/performance is outweighed by the french electrical issues!
Smomimon - you should visit more often then!

Big brother is watching Jon... you might remember that my quote was Saxo VTS = 2.0 Converted Si, give or take dependant on mods.

As if by magic there is already a quote here saying the same thing...

A mate of mine had one years ago and they are quicker than you'd imagine for a 1.6. If you've not been in one, then you'd be surprised how capable they are
