I totally dis agree with this statement - "totally agree, an rs1800 is in vtr league" I owned an RS1800 for 2 years I know for a fact it left VTR's for dead and would keep up with a 106 gti so Im assuming a VTS wouldn't be much different.

i just dont like seing so many people putting so many doubts (some without due dilegence) on the fiesta Rs. specially in favor of a french hot hatch!

IMO its not worthy of the RS badge its a glorified xr2i, im not the only person that would say this either a lot of ford enthusiaists would say the same. Group 15 insurance, dull performnace etc compared to some "french hot hatches" which are quicker, and cheaper to insure etc no brainer really. If you want a RS fiesta theres only one to choose from.

Anyway... An update on the car!!

The bigger brakes are now fitted and bled, and work an absolute treat. Very happy with the outcome, and I can see this car being a bit tail happy now as it's so light at the back

Going to use the car to bed the brakes in this week, but we've found another problem in that the drivers front wheel bearing needs doing asap. Might just book it into the garage to make sure it's sorted before the planned track day on the 20th. Cutting it fine again though which I don't like!

i recently went on a go karting trip in newport with college, although they were rwd, the arse on them was very lively, most of the bends was taking with it swinging out, was very good fun, soon as i jumped back int he fiesta i had all the confedance to wanna kick the arse on that out, yet again its alot more difficult lol, best i leave that to the karts

The discs were 247mm - now up to 266mm (these are what the 206 gti, and some 306's use as standard) along with some ebc pads. This might not sound like a massive upgrade but it's definitely made a difference, the calipers are a lot bigger and provide a lot more stopping power. Its a popular 106 mod as you can still keep the 14" wheels. 306 gti-6 brakes are too big for 14s, and it's best to change the master cylinder with those. This upgrade was a happy medium and will be more than good enough for this car.

I forgot the camera today but there wasn't too much exciting going on!

sounds like a similar upgrade from standard fiesta brakes to the 260s such as ive done

just theyre about 8mm bigger than the 260s on fords, or do they call them the 270s for the pug?

Yeah the pedals are very close together, and it doesn't help that I have size 11 feet!

Similar in the 206, I can't press the clutch in one without my foot hitting the steering column!

Anyway, cars not ready for this trackday today either...

At this rate, it might be ready for April!

Ok, speaking from experience... When I owned this car first time round I actually swapped it for an rs1800 - let's just say the drive home was much more fun!

I'm not slating fiestas or anything here and I didn't want this thread to spear off into a "what's better" thread (although it is interesting hearing peoples views on it). Im not into the whole traffic light racer game either and dont drive this car agressively on the road to prove its faster or better than other cars, so I can't comment on that. I just fancied going down a different route to a track based mk3. If anyone would like to really see how the cars compare, make sure your name is down when the thread for castle combe action day in April pops up

Certainly was pal, i sold it on since then but had to buy it back as it was a decent car!

Wheel bearing has been done now, it just needs putting back together. If it stops snowing i might be able to sort it over the weekend.

Jony jog on, why do you think ford is far superior to every other car manufacturer? you do know buying fords for the rest of your life wont earn anything from them right? im not as narrow minded as you see.

My mate jason is ford through and through but then bought a williams clio on the whim and i tell you what that would pulverise a 2.0 zetec, he said so his self that it was a hell of a lot quicker than his mk2 2.0.
