Michael's Zetec S now breaking
Michael's Zetec S now breaking
I deleted my old thread as i started it off badly.
soooo
After disaster hit my Mk3 (chassis legs were rotted to feckkkkkk, the final nail in the coffin for her:()
i decided to get a boy, and rather than arse around with an engine swap just get a fast one and have some tasteful visual mods.
i would love for this to be the case, but with insurance and everything progress is going to be slow, and atm as hit a brick wall.or rather... a tree!
so when i got it it was on 78,000 and it ran fine except for a slight knocking, picked it up for £1,300 so wasnt too bothered about it as my budget was £1,800 thanks to the bank of nan! so i had spare cash to sort it out
turns out the previous owner had changed the radiator at some point and decided to leave the mounts unscrewed, so that was an easy fix...
i called it brian
after my grandad (he isnt deadd, its not a tribute, i just like the name haha)
some pictures of when i got it...
with my mates twingo as well
well, icy roads and the state of the roads in blackpool soon ate my front wheels, the phase 1's went in place of my rs2000's which i bought from a guy on here for my mk3, they look good, but need a resto, well now anyway (ill explain later in the post)
and after a nice wash:)
then i de tango'd the bast!
and got some new tyres for the front...
put a few stickers on, pedo bear FTW!
de-wipered due to the motor being fubared!
fully serviced by a mate at ford, it was running sweet as ever, except for poor idling, it was hunting at 2-3k on cold, cleaned out icv but no change...
then, friday 11/03/11 whilst driving down a national road, a fuc king fox startled me doing 40+ i swerved to avoid the little C UNT started slidding because it was wet, and ended up in a ditch, me and my passenger were really lucky, the car dug in but didnt roll, the field was so wet it stopped us in our tracks, anyway
heres the pictures of when we crashed and the damage:(!
the recovery yard claimed my suspension was anihilated, bent track rod? could that cause the wheel to turn out when the pthers straight?
was gutted about my grill...
the gap it left...
the tree
damage to my rear bumper
this was hidden by my skirt, its now full of woodandmud:(
all in all,i thank my lucky stars it didnt end worse, i felt so bad for my passenger as well, text her every 5 mins to see if she was okay
so basicly, my aim is to get it to FITP, and to start looking after it properly, anyone see any damage to the hub? im not a mechanic as you all know...
also, any parts you have going cheap;)?

Re: My ZS!
jumped into the water too soon there mate
but most of us crash at a early stage, ive been there
one thing though, why are you concerned with mods and the like when your engine is knocking?
incase you dont know, when these "Sigma" engines start to knock from inside, its a pretty sure bet that its the big end bearings, a very common fault which indefinitely kills the engine, the way theyre designed means they cant be repaired for it
id put your money into saving for a new engine and the cost to replace it
very unlucky that this happend though
sorry to say if the engine is infact knocking, the cost of a new engine and whole new suspension set up for that corner makes it a write off really

Re: My ZS!
i might have forgot to say, i found the source of the knocking, it was the radiator fan and radiotor that wernt attached at the mounts, the engines sound, just been serviced, the only thing it needs is a new cambelt, thats coming out of tomorrows wage though
yeah cheers jon, i know ive been pretty unlucky with cars soo far...

Re: My ZS! (slight uodate)
today i bought a new front wing, its a pattern part, but only £27 so cant go wrong...
my plans are to stickerbomg it, rather than have it painted or paint it myself, because;
A: im s**t at painting things, litterally the worse at it ever!
B: ive always liked the stickerbombing thing and want to see what it looks like (its cheap as f**k too! as i have LOADS)
a new strut, bottom arm and trackrod/end all for around £120 these were all genuine ford too...
the strut is off a mk5 but not a zs, if i swap the srpings it'll be right wont it ?
im thinking about cancelling my insurance as well, and going back to my bmx days, until i can really afford to drive, whats happens if i cancel my policy :s? im a bit scared to ring up and ask them

Re: My ZS!
Save and do it properly. Sorry mate but I think if you carry on like this it'll look a bodge.
Stickerbombing a new wing will just look like you can't afford paint, and if you're going through the effort of having the wing welded on you might as well get it painted at the same time.
As for suspension, the shocks and springs are both different, again it will be a bodge if you put a standard mk5 shock and zs spring on one side, the rebound and compression rates will be totally different and if you continue swerving to avoid small animals then worse will happen next time.
By reading this thread I would say save up, get it repaired properly

Re: My ZS!
its easy saying ill try and save up, but when my outgoings are more than my income and ive got a holiday coming up, its bad times for me
i dont mind if it looks like i cant afford to have it painted, because thats the case, im doing thses things so i can have it back on the road as soon as, that way im not wasting £250 a month (insurance)
and ive found out that the shock doesnt need replacing, needs tracking doing and track rod/end, so that makes it a bit better for me...

Re: My ZS! ONE STEP CLOSER TO BEING ON THE ROAD
said i was going to do it,and i have
im pretty happy with the result tbh, i thought about what you said nick and shopped around... but i owed the bank the money that i would have used to get it painted, f**cked i am!
anyway
todays pictures
Pretty self explanatory...not much damage except my warped discs and tracking parts...
the result
a before an after...
also gave my front bumper a clean up, got rid of all the s**t the tree left behind, an put my club sticker on
tell me what you think of the wing ?

it doesnt work ?
i dont understand why people dont like it haha, i think its cool... im not trying to impress anyone with it, if i was i wouldnt have crashed it in the first place, i just like it standing out and being different from all the other zs' you see with 40mm drop, the same alloys and all the other clobber that they all seem to have
tracking and parts are getting done tomorrow, hopefully be on the road by tea time saturday ;D
what dates fitp? id probably be interested in going and with ft too ?

I'm just not a fan of stickerbombing in general, interiors, bodywork, anything. It throws up connotations that its something that kids seem to be doing to "fit in" instead of doing thier own thing, having said that I'm yet to see an example of stickerbombing that I think looks good. Give me subtle any day

Re: My ZS! so then... stickerbombing yay/nay?
So I've ruined my car by doing something different?
Something that's not to everyones taste? That's not the usual s**t mods that everyone does to their cars?
I hardly think I've ruined it, I've just made it more me? It's interesting and I like it
And I'm not just some scene kid either, I didn't do this to impress anyone else, I want my car to look different?
Don't see a problem there at all
Plus, looks far better in person
