Re: My ZS! Unhappy Brian!
ha one of many mate
most common fault with the Sigma is the main shaft bearings failing from oil starvation, which they are cast into the block and therefor unserviceable, so if they go, the whole engine goes
many call them throw-away engines like a fudgekin toothbrush
ford changed all this come the mk6, actually i cant guarantee its the same engine probably a new phase, like the 3 versions of the Zetec e

Re: My ZS! Unhappy Brian!
I've thought of this, straight swap as well... And more available from what I've seen.
Ona brighter note... I found my dad today well happy
Oh and I managed to get my car to touch my garage roof, so I'll be hacking away at it in no time
Another thing, as there's potentially more damage to the steeringrack, is it worth just replacing the whole this rather than fcuk about?

Good news on the dad front!
I would just replace the rack personally, you can probably get them cheap enough 2nd hand

Re: My ZS! Unhappy Brian!
It's little end bearings that are most common for failing on a sigma. And they are serviceable, just more cost effective to replace the engine these days!
Also there is no difference between a focus and fiesta 1.6 zetec se, just a focus usually won't carry the premium of a fiesta one..

What route do you think I should go down, should I replace the 1.6 or puma it?

Re: My ZS! Unhappy Brian!
If your not too bothered about expensive tuning.. Like itb's, cams, management and all that, then you'll probably be better off spending a small amount more now and fitting a puma.
Should be quite nippy with a puma engine/box and a 421 exhaust and catback!

Re: My ZS! Unhappy Brian!
i agree, the puma engine is a dead end
but thats not 100% a bad thing, if you have little desire to tune it once your complacent with it, a puma will do, as they dont respond very well to tuning
but like said if your gonna be happy with 123bhp fit it and leave it alone, it will serve itself well
or if you'd rather keep tuning an engine and making it better, stay with a 1.6 as theyre far better to tune, some see as much as 160bhp on ITB cams etc... which is more than you'd see from a 1.7 and for less money too

Re: My ZS! Unhappy Brian!
Jon, you know I'm not all that good at mechanics
I could handle a puma conversion, but taking engines apart and fitting cams etc isn't my thing at all.
I need the cosmetics dooing first anyway because it's f**cked ha

May as well buy a Puma TBH. It's a lot of hassle for 120bhp and no torque...

Re: My ZS! Hmmm :(
i think im going to sell and buy another car, i talk so much s**t and have so many plans
but its just all so unrealistic,
my friend has a colarado red zs
4-2-1 full stainless
cammed
lowerwed...
pretty much exactly what i want to do to mine and he's offered it to me for £900
i got a qote for a full respray the other day for £480, i want coilovers, new tyres... thats already over £900 by my reckoning it'll cost me twice as much as it would to buy his, so i think im going to break mine or try and find someone willing to take it on as a project, i just dont have the time or space... its a shame, but i just cant keep getting myself upset about these things, i just dont earn enough to do it all.
im in a pretty s**t position again... ill be said to see it go, but at the end of the day, its only a piece of metal and i enjoyed it while i had it
if i genuinely experience a miracle and manage to make enough to fix it properly before i start pulling it to pieces then ill update this, but it's not looking good
