MIG welder gas

Postby Sphinx on Sun Jul 12, 2009 6:34 pm

Heeeeey everybody

I'm going to give MIG welding a go as I've got some spare sheet metal etc lying around & my uncle has a welder sat in his garage not being used. I'm sure it's got some wire but I know it doesn't have any gas.
Where do you get it from? are there different types? etc

Cheers

Air products - Cougar 5,
BOC - Specshield 5,

Basically anything with around 5%-8% Co2 will be fine for what you want.

Cheers guys.
I've been looking at prices and :o I just want to practice some welding and give it a go now and then! How the f**k can anyone justify some of the these prices for such a 'part time' skill?!? Unless I'm just getting jokers on the phone, what sort of price am I looking at? and how does it normally work?

Cheers Ruishy, I do visit that forum from time to time but can't say I've have noticed any posts like that.
£100 is still way more than I was expecting tbh, but it's less than renting one that I'll only use once in a while!

TBH mate you wont get it for much less than 100 quid, unless you know someone in the pub trade who can get you CO2 bottles, then a refill should be bout 30 quid IIRC
have a butchers at this thread though, should help you get going http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.c ... read=60530
