They are wheezy and gutless.

The 2.0 with a proper inlet and management will rev itself to pieces and has far more urgency starting far sooner in the range than a 1.8.

Well if building up the 1.8 goes bad I was just going to be a 2.0 and run the cult ecu like you already suggested mark.

Ok, so the weather was absolutely s**t today - but rather than waste the day I tidied and organised my garage! Took me two hours
Image

As you can see I've striped down the drums! Which was hard, first time I've done them!

I think the shoes are in okay condition?

Image
Image

Only think now is one of them was missing the springs, I'm guessing I'll be able to use the mk3 ones though? AND do the bias' look okay? AND advice for getting the old bushes out?

And Sam it's on one of the pics I'm sure!? Also, planned on heating them up then smashing f**k out of them so I'm was on the right lines hahaha

use bare flame and catch them on fire so it literly melts! still take 5 or ten mins though once alight! and brake bias goes in your brake line system.

Dont agree with you there, id take a standard 130 spec 1.8 over a standard 2.0

not saying either is better or worse, but i just find the sudden spike in power from the 1.8 130 more exciting/thrilling

Edit, thinking about it,, my cams make that power band even more pronounced than 2.0 cams, so im slightly biased

You've not had a properly running 2.0 from what I gather? They've always been on a mismatch of 1.8 and 2.0 management parts, and non-HO inlets?

No petrol needed, just a blowlamp and time, give it a minute or two of heat on the rubber, let it catch then a few prods will fetch the centre out, few more minutes burn time and you'll be able to scrape the bulk of the remainder out with a screwdriver, putty knife or what have you.
Nothing to see here...

If you had anything to do with the fitting, repair, installation of either then its likely they wont be an accurate measure of what each engine is like when its done properly.

The late mk3.5 handbrake cable should fit. As yours is an N-reg you should have that? Mine was a direct fit and that's N-reg :)

The difference (if it doesn't fit) is the clip that holds the cable to the drum backplate, if it's the wrong cable the clip will fall through the hole.

Re: Mike's Azura. Filler/Fiberglass Q's

Postby Michael! on Thu Feb 07, 2013 12:34 pm

i want to fill the bumpstrip in on my standard bumpers as ive already posted on here, but i want to know;

is it best to use filler, then fiberglass over the top of it? or just use filler?

do i use sandpaper to smooth the fiberglass? what grade is best etc

any tips will be appreciated.

To smooth the filler you need to start with something like p60 and when it is smooth (but a bit rough) move up to some p400 or something to get it a lot smoother :)
Or you could buy my standard bumpers with a chrome strip round them!! i dont see why you would need fiberglass, filler would do the job :)

As the recess is quite deep. You'd be better off removing the strip, then Plastic welding up the recess, then filler over the top of that.

It'll be stronger, so less chance of cracking!

well on a practice one i filled it and fiberglassed over it and it did crack after a bit...that was my reason for the question... i though the fg might toughen it up but obviously not :(

whats plastic welding?!

Same concept as welding, but with plastic!

DIY way; buy some abs plastic rods off ebay, use an old soldering iron to melt the plastics together and use it as a filler.
Wear a face mask though, cause plastic fumes are killer!
