Re: Mike's Azura. UPDATE 15/9
Not a HUGE update so to speak but a little bit of work has been done!
Firstly I recently stripped out the back seats (to avoid giving lifts) and took a better shot of the roof
Then I got pissed off with the state of the front bumper and decided to do something different! So I'm smoothing it! I've seen people do it on frst's before but never a pov spec one so - here are the first few bits.
Just fiber glassed It for now, when I get paid I'm gonna smooth it, filler it and paint it panther black!
Also gonna get some fresh plates when I get paid too!
This is the rust that's booked into be sorted on payday too! Then the shells pretty perfect!
And I got bored of never having a space for my drinks when Im driving!!!
So I've started a little work on the centre console - only have one very s**t picture atm but Ill be putting the stero back on it's original position, then removing the coin trays from the console an moulding two cup shapes into them, then with the ashtray gone it'll make enough room for even a bottle of coke!
Should be good - what do y'all think!?

Re: Mike's Azura. UPDATE 15/9
innovative ideas
id strongly avoid panther black, this aint a mk5 lol , just a gloss black imo, or that would even look weird, so a subtle satin id choose
i HATE that they rust on the rear turret, was a nightmare to weld, i never wanna have to do another
good stuff mikey

Don't leave that rust, make sure it does get sorted. My car was like that and not long later it completely collapsed lol

Re: Mike's Azura. UPDATE 15/9
The only reason I said panther black is because I have the paint
Then again I have saying black too, but I got the glossy idea because I've seen a silver ka with glossy black bumpers and it works really well!
Also I don't recall a mk3 with these bumpers ever going down that route? So could try panther/gloss black and then if it looks s**t just spray the satin over it?
Oh and Jony I've been cut off and can't reply - but me too
The rust IS booked in for Saturday 27th to be looked at - the same time as the tracking is and WILL be sorted.

Re: Mike's Azura. UPDATE 15/9
Had a bit more twitchy bum action today whilst doing 30 dunno why but the tyres on this are shocking in the wet! fudgekin nangkangs!
As per my thread in the query section, after payday gonna treat it to 4 new (decent) tyres and also get the rear beam sorted, the bushes were less than twelve months old when I took it off the car and after a quick inspection they seem to be pretty good too, so gonna leave polybushing it until mot (providing I havnt saved and bought anew one by then)!
Also, found someone with a stainless midsection for a 1.1 so gonna bang that on if I can sort a good price and just buy a small cherry bomb as a temp - need to try and sell the 1.8 stainless I have!
Anyone interested in any 1.8 parts?

Re: Mike's Azura. UPDATE 15/9
Oh i see u also have the same problem in the wet as i do, stupid amounts of understeer?? Whats ur roof lining done with?? Pages out of comics?? I like it i hate little bits of rust like that, the corner of my scuttle is getting worse!! dont know how u can drive a stripped out car though its so noisy!! What u planning on doing next??

Re: Mike's Azura. UPDATE 15/9
Believe it or not I struggle with oversteer
I don't gun it into corners do understeering isn't an issue, plus with it being lowered it handles pretty well, it's the backend that gets twitchy quick! But ones the zetec s rear beam is on and a rear strut brave AND my polybushes ad new tyres I'm hoping it'll be cured.
Yeah it's pages from a marvel annual from the 80's - I used to collect them and had a spare one of these! It's just watered down pva, then more pva on top.
Having a stripped out daily is weird as the noise comes from everywhere! But the seats are back in now and I've nearly sorted the rear trims out (having my rear speakers put in them)
My next move is to fashion some cup holders out of the centre console and I've started to make my own custom gear gator out of some funky s**t I had milling about.
The only problem is I need a new fascia for the centre of the dash as I thought I had a spare and f**cked this one up playing about!

Re: Mike's Azura. UPDATE 15/9
will be interesting to see how your cup holders come out. very interesting in doing it in mine but i think an easier way would be to buy the part from an exisiting car and fitting it in some way. are you doing that or you completely fabricating your own?

Re: Mike's Azura. UPDATE 15/9
I toyed with fitting some from a mk4 golf as my mate had a brand new piece left over from his old car - but the amount of fiddling would be the same as just moulding my own in to the current centre console.

Re: Mike's Azura. UPDATE 15/9
Ah my understeer is due to part worn really sh*t tyres i believe my roof lining is just purple furr from a fabric shop and some special spray on glue, had to take the whole lot out to do. My centre console is also broken, the clip holding the ash tray up snapped off i normally just wedge a cup in the door pocket tbh.

Re: Mike's Azura. ENGINE update :D 23/9
Things moving forward slowly now!
Been busy this weekend boys! I decided that because I could move the engine on I may aswell crack on with sorting it
Coked up doesn't even cut it. 60k MY ARSE - good job it was a bargain?!
But my friend doesn't take "it's f**cked let's buy another" as an answer haha.
So he set about his business -
They all ended up like this one
While I did this
And this
I get paid on Tuesday do hopefully the rear beam will be fitted as well as the front brakes - also th front bumper will begin to take shape
Oh and I may have an frst steering wheel too!

I don't think I am, but I have it so it'll be good to practise on - if you get me?
Yeah it does but I got it for free and it was painted really badly in an awful deep red colour - and I obviously have stickers

Re: Mike's Azura. ENGINE update :D 23/9
mike the engines f**cked, do yourself a favour and bin it
if its that oil saturated, its been running too hot, and at high oil pressure for a long time, its probably so worn internally
i supprised your "mechanic" mate is going ahead with it
bet the cam lobes have heat spots, rings are knackered and big end shims worn too, not to mention a reboring needed on the cylinders

Re: Mike's Azura. ENGINE update :D 23/9
Well that's okay, because IM not putting any money into that engine, he's rebuilding it for something to do, the mileage must have been double 60k because I'd expect that condition from one that old...
The heads in bits, gonna be ported, skimmed, polished and rebuilt WITH NO expense from me at all, the bores are fine, rings, seals and all that other guff is gonna be replaced.
It only needs a water pump pulley because I sold mine for some petrol money
Like I've said though I'm not messing with that engine now, just updating on progress...?
If he says he can rebuild it, it will get done. End of.
