Thought i treat the cooper to some wider wheels ! :D
i know there not proper minilites but these were a bargain :D
minilife 5j x 12'' alloys

Comparision shot - they certainly fill the arches more. Im glad i didnt go for the 6j alloys as i would have to start butchering the front wings and arches.
I raised the Hi low suspension enough for the clearance on the tyres too.

What you all think ?

love the 'minilife' bit... you going to get mini cooper centre caps for em?

look the funlumps bud... really do. with some tyre shine on there.. yum! got a gorgeous mini cooper round my area in the same colour. looks stupidly clean and the wide wheels just make it bud.

A change of plan regarding alloys & arches !
I wasnt happy with the 5 inch wide alloys wheels. TBH i have always loved the stance of the rover sports pack arches & wheels so decided to go down that route to create a sports pack looky likey.

This weekend i got round to fitting my new sports pack arches and alloys. So pleased with the paint finish on them. I had the paint specially mixed in aerosols to match the paint code of the car from am panels.

I used the mini spares templates to work out where to cut from wings and drill holes.
Angle grinder 1mm blade was the tool to cut along the line then reformed a new arch lip using grips. hand Painted lip for protection.

KAD steering rack limiters were installed to prevent alloys rubbing the inner wing. You lose one whole turn on the steering wheel doing this but makes it safer for the tyres.

At the rear had to remove fuel tank from the left to gain access to the inside of panel. Looked like a massive job but one bolt removed and it falls out of place.

The sports pack alloys grip the road so much better than the 4 inch rover alloys - They have eliminated all the body roll i had previously.
Next job is to fit my new adjustable heavy duty front tie bars and bushes. Both steering rack gaiters are perished and split so will do them next weekend along with new track rod ends

I plan to remove the mini cooper decal from the boot and fit a winged badge. Also want to remove the 1.3 badge as it looks untidy due to the chrome worn off.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

More pics !

Gave it a clean today to get rid of all the road salt & grit
Removed the old style cooper decal and 1.3L badge then fitted the new style winged badge with the matching cooper sport badge to match the kit & wheels.
Last job of the day i fitted a set of 5mm spacers on the rear to make rear wheels fill the arches more.

only difference on the sports model was they updated spi to mpi (single point injection) (multi point injection)
The spi setup is very similar to the fiesta Cfi setup.
The mpi setup has 4 injectors , front mounted radiator and a few other changes

The engine itself was unchanged between the two models. The mpi model actually has less bhp than the spi :)

MPI had 2 injectors as the aseries engine has seamese inlet ports. The head on carb, spi and Mpi are all nigh on the same differences in the cooling system, braces and sensors, pistons and compression ratio. The a series only has 5 ports 3 zorst 2 inlet

Not be anal I just love mini engines and know this for a fact sorry

also Mpi do make more power seen about 70 dyno runs back to back in standrad and stage one trim MPI = BETTER

sport pack minis also had Carbed and Spi. In 1992 they introduced Cats and then the Spi become standard and from 1994 it crossed to Mpi but leyland still made a few Spi's

Mate. don't want to piss on your bonfire but having had in excess of 30 Minis over the last 25 years and having bought a '97 Sportspack from new I can catagorically state that they don't handle better on 13" wheels. If you were to drive a std Mini 1000 on 10" wheels on the bends round my way you would be astounded how much better they drive.

13" Sportspacks look the absolute funlumps though :D

fair enough 10 inch wheels may be the bees knees. But in my opinion on this mini going from 12 inch 4j wheels to 13 inch 6j wheels is a vast improvement round the corners. Ive went to stevenage and back the other night in it and it held the corners extremely well. The car used to lean to one side on the old wheels whilst taking a sharp bend.
