Re: mk 3 fez si
been looking at widening the track on the fez with wider arches and spacers on the frunt too.
also wining the arches hould make the zetec s beam a better fit.
so seen these there for a mk1 fiesta there a xr2 copy but 1in wider i have tought about putting them on my fez.
so thought i would post a pic and see wot you think.

Re: mk 3 fez si
well lil update.
i have been neglecting the fez lately due to other commitments and also i sick as a chip about all the engine problems and i know 1nce i get into fixing it i am going to find a hole host of other problems so have been delaying it a bit.
so i got my ass out there today and got some bits done while i had a lil bit time to spare.
so took out the exhaust system as i am replacing with an ashally system.
took out the cosy calipers andd omp disk's to stop them rusting and seizing up.
started to strip the top of the engine ready to take of the head and check the block but as fuking usual there is somthing fuking up my plans and that is in the form of a snaped torques socket key.
took out the water pump.
so far the parts list to get it back on the road involve.
-water pump
-new crank
-oil pump
-all new belts
-all new seals and gaskets
-new power steering piping.
-and a few more i connot think of.
also found that my power steering pipe was bent and nipped so wont to sort that 2
went to take the manifold off and found i was missing a bolt.
the power steering pipe.

Re: mk 3 fez si
yeh that happened during fitting the 2.0 engine doesnt affect flow tho or i would have replaced it as the fluids under pressure
and are u sure them 2 bolts on the flywheel that the bolts arent just threaded and the cranks fine as after u posted the pics had a word with kev who helped fit it and he said 2 of the bolts were a pain to fit so may just need new flywheel bolts

Re: mk 3 fez si
no can do m8.
1 of the flywheel bolts had threaded so bad that it would need drilled out and a bigger size bolt putting in as i have tried to put in a new bolt but there is no threads left to hold it in place it ust slipps out.
i was thinking while i am there i may try and get a lightened and balanced crank but dont know how much that stuff costs.
as if it doesnt cost the earth i wouldnt mind gettin a new engine and lightning and balancing the engine componets.
and use my current engine as a spare.

Re: mk 3 fez si
Yea thats a good idea i was going to wack in a 1.8 focus flywheel my m8 found in the back of the garage as it was new.
but they use a sensor so it wouldnt work with the clutch.
but if i use the rs clutch also it should work.
i need to do somthing with the clutch as i eat the 1.6 clutch my driving style that is aggressive with clutch at the best of times.
also the gear box has a space at the back that does not join with the engine so you can touch the fly wheel.
and i am sure that is how my clutch got contamanated with oil and greeesy water of a rather wet moter way dash.
i suppose fittin the zetec sub frame would be a cheaper option plus you could turbo it cheaper now that be fun.
rear wheel convertion would top off the icing on the cake and widened track would be mean as.

Re: mk 3 fez si
done some more with the fez.
removed the exhaust ready for the ashally sytem to take its place when it goes back on the road.
removed the callipers and disks no use leaving the weater to rot them.
removed some more bits to strip the engine down.
thermostats gasket was non egsistant lol.
decided i will paint the s brace and gear box craddle exc exc.
so started to get all the rust of it.
seen a few rust paches developing in the wheel arch so i am going to sort that out befor it gets worse same with any other bits i find.
then my fun was stoped as i tried to take of the head and got all the rest of the bolts out bar 2 1 started to give way as in started to round so stoped and the other snaped my socket pice.
so will have to solve that problem.
so whent in with all the engine parts and got to work checking and cleaning them.
and i was horrified at the state i had let them get in not impressed with my self at all.
and this is a lil bit i sscraped out
injecter rail was full also i shudder to think at wot was bing injected with the fuel.
also thick black s**t on the ports and tb so getting that cleaned up 2
also the throttle felt stiff and sticky so decided look at the lingages and found it just needed some better washers and better lube.

w the ffff**** that was alll spotless when i built it up as was the throttle im very supprised by that has the k&n been letting aload of s**t into the inlet pipe thats shocking or is it not sealing properly i had alot of stress modifying the first 2.0 tb so i ended up getting another one from work and redoing it so that one should be fine

yea i know i have no idea how that has happened but it aint happning agian.
and i have had bother with k&n filters since my 1st car.
and i have cleaned the k&n 3 times since i owned it.
1nce when i 1st got the car.
1nce when i done the maf sensor.
and the last time was just before it came off the road.
so plan is to clean it all up clean the filter again.
and remove the tb frequently to keeps tabs on how fast its clogging up.
may just be the k&n givin up the goat.
ither way i am happy i started to do this now instade of it causing a massive head ake later on.
also my m8 works with zink plating and stuff.
i was thinking about having the fuel rail and things done.
just dont know if it will clog up inside of the parts.

as long as you bung off the inner part of the fuel rail should be fine fella i think easiest option would be plado or blue tact
lol so yeh im poss gonna sell my mini and get a lupo sport as im unsure if im gonna keep wasting money repairing mechanical faults

Re: mk 3 fez si
took apart my maf sensor last night and it was filthy so cleaned that up.
also the k&n filter looks a bit manky so will clean that up.
and today i got my head off and was glad to see that there were no cracks in the block.
so tomorow i will drop the gear box out and then drop the block after it.
decided it would be a good idea to get the coilovers off and give em a clean up but to my fustrasion i found the tops had been rounded off so i have no clue how to get them off with out cutting them out.
any ideas any1.

Re: mk 3 fez si
yea its a sad affair.
but will be worth it.
so am goin to get the money for a new engine and use this 1 as a spare that i can start to tune up to a stage 1 track spec.
it wont be so much in the power side it will be a stage in the engine build more aimed at matanice mods.
things like uprated engine bolts better gaskets and so forth.
but i have never rebuilt an engine (well not fully) before so i am looking forward to the experance.

Re: mk 3 fez si
done a few little bits today before the rain came to was the fun away.
insulating taped some of the wires.
also removed the power steering componets ready to fit the manual rack.
i have left the rack in as i need move it about for now till i find a manual rack.
also took the crank and pistons out the block and the pumps etc.
and may i add that my pistons and block are really good nick so happy there.

Re: mk 3 fez si
also thought i would slip in some pics of my new run around while the fez is off the road.
its a 1992 yamaha tzr 125cc (with the yamaha power valve fitted.
and it is very very fast for a 125cc bike i got 100mph out of it my uncle was gobsmacked following behind in his car.
she is rusting bad at the back but i have sourted that just waiting to paint the frame.
was going to get a cheap 1 litre car but thought this would be a lot better as its so cheap to run.
so leaves me a lot more time and money to go into the si.
and its fast enuf to keep a good speed for any road.

Re: mk 3 fez si
Bin coming up with ideas to open the frunt bumper to get more air to the raidiator.
So my plane is to relocate the licence plate the the bottom of the bumper and open up a hole were the licence plate was.
I'm not to bothered on how it looks as the car for me is all about performance dont matter how bad it looks.
I tucked the licence plate as far up as i could to get clearance so it dont scrape speed bumps etc.
But it looked like the car had goofy teeth would have looked worse with the white licence plate.
So i moved it down a bit and it looked a bit better and that will do for me.
I think i am going to make a licence plate suround with some metal painted black to give the plate a bit more protection if it hits any bumps or dips.

Re: mk 3 fez si
So now all i am left with is getting more air into that engine bay and out again.
now the getting the air out is sourted with the bonnet raisers and also i am going to chop the fire wall down just a bit to get a better air flow.
So my new plans are to cut a hole were the licence plate used to be so there is a direct feed the radiator.
i dont really mind how it looks but tbh you wont really notice it 2 much as the car is going to be sprayed black and some fine black mesh in the new vent to give it some fill so aint just a gaping untidy hole.
Coupled with that will be a kenlowe fan mounted on the bumper side of the radiator.
Also i have had thoughts about some vents in the bonnet lip to make a grill.
As i dont wont to chop the bonnet lip off and leave a gap.
It dont look 2 good as it was a quick job with masking tape.
But with the black body colour and the black mesh inside all the vents it wont look 2 bad.
And as i have said the car is about performance not looks.
so coupled up with the ducts in the foglight holesand the morete headlights and the rsturbo bonnet i should have all the air i could ever need in the engine bay.
also it will come in handy later when the power hikes.

its not just a case of changing the rack itself,
