Re: Mk1 FRS - Some work coming up... (11/09/13)
Well, #2422 is off to demon performance centre in Crewe (Mk1 FRS specialists) on Saturday for a bit of work as follows:
Cam belt
Drive belt
New sump
Oil and filter
Also, I won a free vehicle inspection there at the FRS Anniversary meet last September, so getting that while I'm at it
Will be good to know all these jobs are done, and it will be off for the MOT on the following Tuesday aswell, a big feew days coming up!

Re: Mk1 FRS - Some work coming up... (11/09/13)
Well all went smoothly at the weekend and Demon Performance centre did me proud!
Cam belt done, drive belt done, sump changed, oil and filter changed, car inspection carried out!
Next up is MOT tomorrow, then off the road after that ready for a winter full of work
Some pics from the weekend:
Beadage:
The only main issue I had over the weekend was the fact that it was throwing it down every time I drove the car, was spinning up in first, scond and third. Makes life more interesting though....

Re: Mk1 FRS - MOT passed! (17/09/13)
Well, I am delighted to say it passed the MOT with flying colours today, not bad for a 10 year old car
Well pleased!
Thats it for the year now, off the road as of now, winter of work begins at the weekend
Job list:
Strip the whole back end down, replace all the bushes, powdercoat it all, do any de-rusting on the car itsself, change the front brakes and shockers, and fit my new front slam panel aswell
I'm feeling inspired to get stuck in now, so can't wait to get going while the inspiration is there
Well pleased!

Re: Mk1 FRS - MOT passed! (17/09/13)
Time for an update on this thread
Well, after passing the MOT on Tuesday just gone, thats it for the RS for this year. Now off the road until the spring, got some jobs planned over the winter as follows:
Strip the whole back end down, replace all the bushes, powdercoat it all, do any de-rusting on the car itsself, change the front brakes and shockers, and fit my new front slam panel aswell
Made a start yesterday, got the old front panel off and my new genuine ford item ready to put on, ran out of paint so am waiting on some more just to paint up the bolts and brackets so it all looks nice and fresh
Also got it jacked up and wheels off to strip brakes down, but my ratchet wasn't long enough to get the calipers off, so a breaker bar has been ordered
Anyway, some pics from yesterday:
Old vs. new:

Floating panel-free focus:
All comments welcome

What was wrong with the old panel, Dave?
Out of interest, did you read the 'future classics' piece in the latest Evo?

Ratchet not long enough get a deep socket on an extention and slide it over the end or the ratchet
There you go a breaker bar lol

It had bits of surface rust on it where the plastic and metal met, and a new genuine one came up cheap on ebay, so decided the best form of attack would be to put a nice shiny new one on. My OCD wasn't allowing surface rust on show in the engine bay
And yes, had a read in the Evo magazine, nice little article, makes all the money I spend on mine seem more worthwhile

What I meant was the ratchet handle itself was not long enough to give me enough leverage to shift the bolts, so a two foot breaker bar was ordered to give me the leverage I needed

Another update
Got some more work done on the RS on Saturday
Got the new slam panel fitted, very pleased with it, really finishes off the engine bay
Then removed the front brakes and shockers ready for replacement
Next up is to fit new front brakes, new front shockers (after painting the ABS bracket and springs), and new ARB drop links too, then its time to strip the back of the car down to restore
Pics:

Another update
Been at the garage again today and got some more done on the RS
Best to let the pictures do the talking:
Got it back down on its wheels, running, and out of the garage to turn round. Gave all the fans/A/C etc a run whist I was at it too:
On wheels:
Out (good to see it again!!):
Turned round and back in:
Bumper and wheel arch liners off:
Impact bar removed to de-rust and paint, and panel cleaned up:
I then started to remove the bolts holding the rear subframe on to take it off then strip it all down, but ran out of daylight unfortunately
Getting there anyway!

Got the afternoon off work today, so decided it would be the perfect oppertunity to carry on with the RS
Well pleased, managed to get the other rear brake off, then remove the whole rear subframe
Now all ready to strip down and refurb
Was working till way after dark under LED light only, but was worth it

Another small update
Had a bit of time spare this morning, so de-rusted the rear discs and rear impact bar and painted them all as part of the rear end freshen up. Funny the difference a lick of paint can do!

Wish I could, think there is something wrong with me. I buy a car to drive, then decide it is too good to drive, and in turn spend endless money on making it like new
Not sure if there is a cure.....?!
