Mk1 FRS - Winterised! (01/11/14)
Re: Mk1 FRS - Currently in bits! (04/01/13)
Rs Adz :nice frs look the look of these wot are they like to drive daily
Cheers mate
To be honest, I cant sing their praises enough, definitely the best car related descision I have made buying this. They are excellent all rounders, really smooth and refined round town but then like a weapon on the open roads. Mine is completely standard and you would swear it was on some high end coilies with engine mods too giving it the power delivery it has. Torque is always there on tap, not much lag at all
And at the end of the day, it is a focus, so big boot, plenty of interior space etc
Just excellent all rounders basically
rs_fiesta :Nice car that!

Best to see whats out there. It depends what you want, there are some high milers out there for quite reasonable prices nowerdays. And they can definitely take the milage, I know of 130k + cars on all the original running gear (clutch and all!)

Re: Mk1 FRS - Currently in bits! (04/01/13)
The clutches will last a long time if they are not thrashed and more so if the cars not been modified.
However, if the clutch does go your looking at £400 for a replacement if you can get hold of one - it is an AP Racing unit.
They are greats cars and there will never be another Ford with so many be-spoke parts, there's more on these than any other mainstream production model. They will be playing a large part of my business for years to come.
They are a bargain if you can get a good standard one for under 8K and you can guarantee values will only go up. I would pay careful consideration to what needs doing on a prospective purchase as some parts can be very expensive (not just because of RS 'scene tax', some parts have astronomical list prices) and quite a few are no longer available.
e.g.
Front Wings - NLA - list price was £644.15
Centre Console - list price £2034.00
Throttle Cable - I have the last 2 - list price was over £90
Intercooler - list price £3003.60
It's not to bad as there are alternatives for some parts - the intercooler pump is used on lots of cars the correct Bosch one can be had for £70 - £80 however the same part in a Ford box is £764.00 at list price.

I agree Tom, definitely good investments, prices are onwards and upwards from here
In terms of parts, some of the list prices are just stupid, but I suppose with almost all of the parts being bespoke to this car, of which only 4501 were ever made, it is somewhat understandable

Very good cars indeed Jony, and even though the list prices are astranomical, there are bargains to be had on parts

i believe that the the mk1 focus was the last of fords well built family cars.
When i drive one of them then compare it to a mk2 2007 focus im still convinced the earlier chasis is better.
I would love to have a go in one of these Rs models just to know how well it goes.
yours looks like a excellent std looking Rs

And you have to go in one if you get the chance, I couldnt believe how good it is for a completely unmodified car. Put it this way, it handles better than my FRST which is on top of the range fully adjustable koni suspension and polybushes, and that is with the FRS on standard suspension that has covered 46k miles!
I also believe the chassis is better than the mk2 (although I suppose I am slightly biased... ). It just goes round corners like you are on railway tracks!
All I can say is, well done ford!

Re: Mk1 FRS - More progress! (16/02/13)
Time for an update!
With the weather being nice today I headed down to the garage to get some more done on the FRS
As part of the front end freshen up, I wanted to spray the intercooler rad matt black as it would be from the factory to get rid of all the stone chips it has collected over time. There was also a bit of rust on the bottom of the front crossmember that I wanted to sort and also the crossover pipe just above the intercooler rad
So anyway, I will let the pics do the talking:
Before I started:
All rust removed:
Crossmember sprayed up with filler primer (imperial blue to follow):
Intercooler rad and crossover pipe masked up ready for paint:
Painted:
The finished thing:
Next job is to sand back the filler primer then get imperial blue and laquer on
All comments welcome

Re: Mk1 FRS - Update! (11/03/13)
Update time!
Got down to the garage again on Saturday despite the grim weather so I could get more done on the RS
Pleased with the progress I made, I will let the pics do the talking
Areas behind front wings cleaned up, and back of wings themselves cleaned up:
Wings re-fitted:
Air deflectors re-fitted to intercooler rad:
And finally, air filter changed for new genuine ford one, and air box cleaned up whilst doing it (cant beat a new filter! ):
Next up is the imperial blue on the front crossmember, get the front bumper resprayed to remove stone chips, change drive belt and pollen filter, then get the car back together
Oh, plus a few bufty items in the engine bay like new dipstick tube, header tank, power steering tank, rear lifting eye etc
All comments welcome

I wish all cars had bolt on wings, makes sense and it is so much easier to work on. The whole of the Mk1 focus unbolts at the front, you can have it down to two chassis rails only without breaking a weld (front crossmember, slam panel etc just unbolt!)
Large garage still has the FRST in, but is at my parents house over in wales. Am renting the garage in the pics near to my place in sheffield

Been in the garage all day again today with the weather being a bit better
Well pleased with progress, got the sills painted up, front panel painted and laquered, then re-fitted washer bottle and bits of trim etc I had taken off when removing the wings (cleaning everything thoroughly before re-fitting of course!)
Next up is to get the bumper resprayed then re-fitted, then its just pollen filter and drive belt and all is done

Re: Mk1 FRS - Bumper painted (28/03/13)
Got the bumper back from the paint shop this evening, and to say I'm pleased is an understatement!
They have done an excellent job, looks like its just come out of the factory! No more stone chips and its looking like brand new once more
Going to re-fit all the ancilliaries to it tomorrow then get it fitted to the car Saturday or Sunday all being well!

Looks swish Dave.
Have you looked into getting some 3m clear wrap fitted to the front end, meant to be the Don!!!
I was thinking of doing it to the Fiesta on the bonnet frontage and fronts of the wings, inside bodykit arches etc!!

Funnily enough, since I got it home tonight and put it in the living room (as I decided the conservatory was too cold..... ) I thought this is too good to get chipped again, so 3M may well be on the cards. Not sure what to get though? Any experience with this?
