send it back and get a proper rubber one.

ford replaced the old type cork and half moons with the one piece gasket for a reason :)

also for the sake of £45 get a new sump. i bet the old one is rusted or has been overtightened at some point in its life. making it near on imposible to get a even seal on the new gasket without s**t loads of sealer.
My Rs i built and sold went through 2 sump gaskets then needed a new sump.
Check the metal inserts for its straightness and check to see if the matting surface of the sump is straight too. If its distorted ,,, chuck it ! :Q

The engine is back together now and timed up. Need to put a gasket on the cam belt cover. On the look out for carb and manifold then once those are sourced the engine can be put in the car hopefully before Ford Fair.

I would have liked a zetec but I just can't afford it at the moment. I do kinda prefer them over zetecs though in regards to how they look in the engine bay....oh and how cheap they are :D

All in good time  I'm rushing to get it in for Ford Fair. The manifold will be ditched asap after FF for a 4-2-1 and il source some 40s nearer the end of the summer. The carb I've got is the best oem carb for the cvh engine.

Most accurate method, think they might be using something similar to do the timing at ff this year
