mk3 1989 1.1L UPDATE 25/03/12

Postby fezza89 on Sat Oct 29, 2011 5:57 pm

i bought this home thursday, had to get the train to twickenham to pick it up
its going to be my run around whilst my black turbo rep is in my garage :D

its a 1989 g reg 1.1L 2 owners from new, the first owner garaged it up until last year when he sold it.

its been serviced every year from new with all receipts to prove, even got the receipt for when he bought it
all old mot's
68,000 mile
i cant find not one bit of rust on it, i got it with a couple of days tax and a month mot.
it has some scrapes to the rear arches nothing major
worst thing is its had a knock on the front valance
about 3 other little dents.
the interior is like its just come out of the factory and i cant believe how quiet the hcs engine is :D
completely origional
the underside is crazy clean, i was going to take a photo of the sills but forgot, but they are as clean as the body work with no rust

it cost the grand total of..........£50  absolute bargain

im thinking of keeping it standard, not sure yet, if anything ill put some si bumpers on it and some smart alloys
its got a full set of ford rubber mats aswell but i took them out to clean them

Bargain :o :o And thats well clean :aviator:

First mod should be to remove the orange indys and swap them for the clears on the rep (think the rep wouls look better with orange jobbys :) )

If your removing them steelies then give me first dibs on them :D (the ones from the white one that is lol)

thanks for the positive comments :D

ive decided im not going to change anything on it. im just going to sort out the dents and paint what needs painting. if i can ill try and sort the front valance out. ive decided its too good to muck about with.

i was looking through the receipts last night and found out the origional owner was a Doctor  result

Do you know where from?

Oil pressure switch or the oil pump o-ring are the most common causes on those engines.

Check both those bits I said then. The oil pump o-ring is held in place by a flat plate and three nuts or bolts (was years ago now I replaced mine!). If it's neither of them, chances are it'll be something stupid like the rocker cover gasket. My old 1.1 runaround always leaks round there - never been able to stop it so I've given up trying!

howdy

aint updated this in a while

since i last stuck photos up ive replaced the passenger side wingmirror, and sorted out the damage to the front valance,

photos

this is when i first got it home, very dirty, you can see the damage to the valance and the mirror being held on with elastic bands
Image

it took quite a while to sort the damage out, bit of novice panel beating by me followed by a skim of filler etc etc. its not 100% but its a million times better than it was

Image

ill leave it a while then ill compound it up.

cheers

2 things:

Ignore whoever said to remove the amber indicators. Leave them in and don't touch them!

Postby fezza89 on Fri Mar 02, 2012 8:14 pm

thanks people

ill be leaving it exactly as it is, ill just be replacing bumpers for ones without scrapes and dents, ill be painting both rear quaters sometime aswell as the previous owner liked scraping the arches on the entrance to his garage. the good thing is its only light scrapes and not dents.

im not 100% happy with the valance, i know i could have done a better job of it if i had access to a drive where i could use power tools and my air compressor.maybe one day ill have another go at it.

ive completely cleaned one of the rear arches out, ill be hammeriting both arches soon, ill also be giving the steels a lick of paint, any ideas what colour the standard steel wheels were??

cheers

them earlier mk3s did have silver steels as standard, thats if they werent covered in rust by now

later mk3s from like 92 on had black painted steels, but they were the same wheel (dorito i call them due to the holes :P )
