Re: My mk3 Ghia project!!
The wheel nuts seem to be the same where they touch onto the wheels, i did have alloys off a mk5 which is where i got the nuts, i didnt really like the wheels tho so i sold them but i lost the original nuts it is quite tidy mate, solid underneath but the rear arches have a few bubbles right at the bottom at the front i got the car for £330 a year ago it was a bargain as it had only done 39000 miles and had the quietest ohv i had ever heard. Since i've had it i've got rid of all the orange indicators and lowered it and done stuff to the interior, i like it tho.

really?
nothing about them being too large on the taper to locate the steel wheels correctly to prevent wheel wobble and offset

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!!
Nope they are absolutely fine. Alloy wheel nuts are designed for use on both alloy wheels (thats what the conical washer is for - because alloy wheels have larger holes) and steel wheels (ie spare wheel)

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!!
They have a taper but in front of that they r the same as the ones for steels and they have been on there a few months and they aint come off yet lol.
I will probably need them if i get another set of alloys anyway if my car goes through the mot with little cost then wheels r coming next month .

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!!
mk2 pepper pots fitted on a mk3 is fine, you can use alloy or steel wheel nuts, becuase the overall hole size is smaller on the pepper pot.
fit a mk3 alloy, say a xr2i one on a mk2, then your in trouble, as the hole is overall bigeer! and thus the mk2 wheel bolt (allot or not) does not have a big enough tapper to grip it fully, at best it catches 2mm all round.
i have seen a washer from a mk2 bolt stuck in a mk3 alloy before, where a windy gun basicly pushed the bolt though the alloy
but oberall, mk3 steel wheel nuts on mk2 pepper pots would be fine, but its always best to keep the right nuts for the type of wheel fitted

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!!
yeah nuts is quite important. i had an aftermarket set of wheel nuts that didnt have a taper bit on the end, they ended up beginning to eat through the alloy itself! always worth making sure though.

Bootlid?? Lol. This is quite a debate about wheels nuts. Well i will still put an amber indicator on to see if i like it!! i know of some rear lights i want, they are same as standard but the indicator and reverse light lenses r red, like the rear lights on a 6n2 polo. I have only ever seen 1 or 2 pairs

yeah I would have killed you Ben
Depending how secure it is on there and how it's secured will depend how long it will last.
Mine scrapes on a lot of stuff and it finally hit something a bit too high the otherday and ripped half of it off
They do look quite smart I think - and make the front end look so much lower too
