tbh though mate, i think you should hold out, if your struggling to pay the insurance atm (trying so hard not to sound condescending, as i of all people know what thats like!)
you'd be paying about a £1000 for a decent 2i mate

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!! Wtf??
Its basically because i have spent all my money this month so i cant afford the first month yet, i just cant see why the 2i is cheaper to insure!! If i had a bigger engine in mine i probably wouldnt be bother really!! I just know i'll mever get the confidence or the parts to do the conversion!!

If i'm honest i think i'm gonna have to wait and save, i can see exactly where you are coming from. Also the 1.1 has never broken down really, just stupid things like the battery has gone flat. If i sold it i would love for someone on here to buy it and finish it off!! hopefully i would get £500 for it.

the 1600 zetec's a great engine when maintained, the one i had in this si when i bought it was a trooper, dont even know why i changed it, made a rash decision

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!! Wtf??
Jony, i mean i would need lots of other bits, like engine loom and ecu, gearbox, apparently new fuel lines and tank!!
Sam, not in a hurry really but once i started it i'd want it to be a quick conversion

to do a 1600 zetec i imagine you'd need;
engine loom
fiesta si
ecu
the fuel lines and tank? you on carb? i imagine you'd need a different fuel pump so not sure if that needs a different tank?? think only fuel pipe to change is the ones on the injectors?

Yeah its carbed mate, i do wonder if the si engine loom plugs straight into the interior loom. Somebody said i'd need a swirl pot with injection??

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!! Wtf??
well, theres guides that make it simpler, but its still a fuss, i had to revert to the haynes manual once or twice
you'd need:
engine, gearbox would be highly recommended, inlet + injectors, engine loom + injector section loom, depending on pas or not, the relevent front mount and pump (or not) and alternator
good few meters of wire, 5amp + 30 amp, varying colours, s**t load of connectors: female spade, ring both blue and yellow sizes
fuel tank from an injection model + pump/sender unit, a automotive relay (30/85/86/87 four pin accessory relay, easy to find on ebay or halfords)
be a great time to service and change the timing belt and gaskets while the engine is out of the car
if you went for a 1800 or 2.0 zetec id deffo upgrade your brakes (bigger servo atleast)

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!! Wtf??
Why dont you just put a 16 cvh in on a carb with an auto choke ,,id say thats the easy, quick no drama done in a day conversion
Then when you get bored put a set of bike carbs on they go reasonably cheap on gaybay

man has a fine point, not as tunable as a 1.8 zetec or 2.0 but it would do nicely for a fit and go play

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!! Wtf??
A good gas flowed head and a midle spec cam with a good bottom end with arp bolts will give well over 100 bhp on a cvh ,,, or you could get the tappets done with some one that knows [ERRR] to do with them on a ohv I think its ment to be 10thou and 12 thou get your guy to set them at 12 for all eight of those singing and dancing push rods i will be sure you will get more than you would think

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!! Wtf??
Yeah i have been looking into an xr2 cvh because it would near enough be a straight swap, i would have to worry about pas or anything
I think i would start with the engine and maybe think about tuning after that!! and a loud(ish) exhaust
