I still crave some chrome wellers though!! They would look amazing imo!! I did used to have 3 sets of wheels when i had the 14's off a mk5 freestyle. but i am confined to my bit of the drive and a small corner of the garage, despite the old man having many vehicles (one being the bloody great winabego type thing that is in my pics in the drive) i am aware of my wrong spelling there!!

Ok so started sanding wheels today, i have Done most of one so far, just needs a bit of less rough sandpaper (p1200 something like that) to smooth them out a bit!! Then polish the feck out of it and it'll be amazing!!

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!! Decent pics!!
which kit? the Si looking or the RS looking one?
the si one is a complete bumper, the RS is a bib kit for the pov bumpers
but tbh no, the bib one isnt that nice imo, and the Si one is very rare, looking at £100 per bumper

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!! Decent pics!!
Got the wheel a bit shinier today, its a pain when the valve keeps getting in the way!!
Bit of polishing (mainly sanding)
The centre cap had to be done!!
This wheel is now bare ally it just aint that shiny, not too sure how shiny i want it because i'd have to clean it all the time though

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!! Decent pics!!
Get the lip as shiny as possible (work down to 2000 grade wet flat, then autosol) and body colour the centres.
Dont clear coat the polished bits though, just use a good quality rim wax/sealant and you wont need to polish them up half as often. My workmate polished the lips up on some old sharktooths and once sealed he only had to do them twice a year to get them back gleaming.

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!! Decent pics!!
Its been a long time since i done a set of tappets ,im sure theres a guide on here but ill tell u what i remember
rule of nine means if you have valve 5 open then valve 4 should be closed ,,if 3 is open then 6 should be closed aye
you close one and adjust the other when its open its a 13 mm nut and a screw u slacken the nut and adj with the screw then tighten up the nut and check the gap again with feelers ,now my dad used to do them all the time cos i just wasnt as good as him at it so please dont take this as gossple but he set then all to the same gap which was the smaller of the two
if that makes any sense

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!! Decent pics!!
But they have 8 rockers^^^
They're IS a guide on here in how to do them and the haynes manual will tell you aswell (which is also on this forum)
But basically
Whip the rocker cover off, you will then see the 8 rockers (2 a cylinder) these have a gap between them
And the either rocker arm or spring ( it has been a LONG TIME for me ) this is the gap you need to adjust as over time the constant contact between the two wears down the face on the rocker and increase the gap, giving the awful clappety noise, all you do is turn the engine over, by hand with a spanner on the crank pulley (would be easier with the spark plugs removed) and I can't remember the firing order but each time you get a piston to tdc there will be a cylinder that had relaxed both rockers (they will feel loose) this is when you insert your feeler gauge between the rocker and the valve spring (I think) you need to check the clearances against the recommended , from memory there's a slight difference between the exhaust ad the inlet measurement..
And just do up the 13mm nut ontop of the rocker ( or undo) until the feeler gauge slides in n out nicely , not tight that it pinches the feeler gauge but not loose so it's like a hotdog down a hallway ...
Do this to all 4 cylinder, put it all back together and start her up and admire how quite she is
This is a very easy task and takes 20 mins odd for first time or being very anal
Hope any of that helps
Russ

Re: My mk3 Ghia project!! Decent pics!!
there was a good guide on FG.co.uk
im certain theres one on here too
once you get the hang of it its piss easy, things such as, jack up the drivers wheel leave it on thou, leave it in gear so you can rock the engine
but set the gaps to 0.2mm and 0.3, but again you'll need the guide as i cant remember which sequence for the tighting and which exhaust or inlet is the 0.2 or 0.3
but those measurements will make it very quiet along with an oil change
