mk3.5 1.8zetec conversuon wiring help*pics added*

Postby ford fiesta on Thu Jan 31, 2008 12:51 am

im almost finished with the 1.8 zetec conversion into my mk3.5, ive just got to wire it up and away i go. But heres where i hit a snag. The car was origionally a 1.1 with cfi and was running a FLUX ecu (internal edis) im using the rs1800 engine loom and an ALSO ecu (external edis). Now my problem is concerning joining the car loom to the engine loom, theyre both 12 or 16 pin connectors(i cant remember and its too cold to go out and count them) and both plug together, but whats worrying me is the wire colours dont match. I read on here that someone thought it would work and just fire up but im a bit worried about plugging them in and then blowing something because its different.

Can anyone shed some light on the matter or make any suggestions?

also theres another plug near the header tank with 8 pins that part of the old loom plugged into but theres nothing on the new loom that goes over to there or no spare plugs that might connect into it. Anyone know what this might be for?, its on the car loom, not the engine loom.

cheers

I did this conversion about three years ago and it would be much easier to get the Si engine loom and use that, the reason being it plugs straight into the car loom on the 1.1. The only difference is that the the temp gauge sender doesn't go through the main plug on the 1.1 so you have wire that through and also the techo feed if that was missing from the original loom. When you've done that you'll need a BLOB ecu from and early Mondeo for it run.

Also I hope you've changed the fuel pump as the CFI pump will probably run the 1600 zetec but I doubt it would for anything larger without leaning out at the top end.

but the plug on my rs1800 loom plugs into the car loom aswell, so i thought it would work?, i want to try and stick with the rs1800 management if i can since its an rs1800 engine and also i want the external edis because ive a megasquirt for it once i get it certified as being safe for the road.

did you have to change any realys?, looking at haynes the cfi relay looks different to the efi one, is this true or am i ok with the existing one?

yeah i've a skyline pump to go into it once i get it started and idling i'll pop it in :)

any idea what the other plug by the anti freeze bottle is for?

cheers for your help

What year is the loom from?

You didn't mention it was RS1800 spec but yes you are best sticking with the RS management then. Smo has done this exact conversion he should be able to advise you better. I used the Si loom with internal EDIS so when I upgraded to RS spec I needed the CULT ecu which are like rocking horse poop. Smo has done exactly this though, if he doesn't reply maybe give him a PM.

Skyline fuel pump! Bit ott isnt it?
