Thought I would re-open my Project Thread, as its been some time (Years).

Due to other things, car was stored away for end of 2006. move to new workshop in 2007 and left it still stored until begining of 2008, restarted work on the car. Begining of this year cusion decided to give me his half due to lack of interest (projects of his own to do) and also money he owed me.

I m currently sorting my collection of photos, as soon as I have uploaded to photobucket I will start my update.

Thought I would start off with Pictures of the car with the 3dr Cosworth wheels, with 195x50x15 tyres;

Image

Image

Image

Image

Next modd was to convert the front brake to the Cosworth 4 pots;

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Next job was to replace the sills and replace the wings.

state of wing and sill on drivers side;

Image

You will also notice on the pictures below I have fitted some DTM mirrors, which i think looks better than the mirror my cusion fitted which you can seen on the first picture above. Begining of this year 2009 work commenced on the wings and sills;

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

I then managed to get myself a OMP rollgage at a bargin price, so I decide to place it inside. Still needs to bolted in;

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Parked back up in it place, waiting for some more work to be done (brother's track car behind it, and then my zetec-s behind that waiting for a new engine);

Image

As part of my aggrement with my cusion handing over his half of the car, he wanted the seats (to small for my fat ass anyway! :lol: );

Image

The Seats I have on order (Corbeau Forza Sport, bit wider for me. :lol: );

Image

This Weekend gone I started on changeing the studs to longer items (due spacers and track reasons), managed the the front one fine. useing an old HT 19 mm socket, old wheel bolt and and a air gun. I started to strip the rear drums down to replace the studs, and notice they needed new shoes and new wheel cylnders. So I decided to covert the rears to Mk5 RS2000 rear disc items, which I brought for a bargin on ebay. I will do a how guide once I have finished.

Here what they where like before I started;

Image

After removed;

Image

Cut back the top flap bit, to enable me to fit the handbrake cable and calipar;

Image

Also Cut of the brake pipe bracket (which I will use later :wink: );

Image
Image

Gave it a coat of paint;

Image

Pop rivet the back back plate on;

Image
Image

Then Bolted up the hub, relised they are handed as they don't line if wrong side;

Image
Image

I then put on the disc/drum;

Image

This is as far as I have got so far;

Image

Next Job to do is to move the goodridge brake pipe to the other side of the shock, useing the bracket I cut off and about 1 or 2 foot of cooper brake pipe. Hopefully the Goodridge pipe is long enough, if not I will be calling rallydesign to make me some up. Then I need to Fit the RS2000 hand brake cable. :Q

Once thats all finished I will be then bolting in the rollCage, which I will need to make up some brackets as the rollcage is designed for a 3 Door.

Heres a list of things to do next;

1 - Fit New Seats
2 - Fit Harness's for Both Seats
3 - Paint Wing, Front Panel, Sills and rear quarters
4 - Full Service to Engine
5 - Fit EBC Yellow Stuff Pads
6 - Fit New Tyres (Toyo T1R's)
7 - Polycarb windows on rear and sides.
8 - Second set of wheels need for R888's

My photobucket link to all my pics regarding the fiesta; http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v107/Philip_d10/My%20Track%20Car/

I will try updated a bit more often this time :)

Good progress mate.

You should get centre caps for the cossie wheels, would look loads better.

Also I prefered the other mirror better than the dtm's but everyone to themselves

Keep up the good work :Q

Would get centre, but they go for silly money and prob fall off on the track.

My Plan later is to have 3x sets of these in 15"

My mate Des owns http://www.bansheemotorsport.co.uk and he got them for me a couple years ago at about £495, they are for Mk3.5 hubs. I was going to go for Koni Coilover but they did not do them for the Mk3.5 hubs, only the Mk3 hubs.

Des is getting me my Corbeau seats in the new year, when I get my Bonus. :)

Re: Mk3.5 5-Door Si Track Car (OMP Cage & Seat fitted)

Postby philip_d on Wed Dec 22, 2010 5:47 pm

Thought I would update this, been a bit slow with it this year. Mainly due to lack of funds, or busy working on other peoples cars for some extra cash for other stuff.

Things looking a bit better now as sorting personal stuff out, as I had a week of last week as needed to use up this year leave before 1st Jan 2011. I spent a couple of the days up the workshop working on the fiesta. Its only taken a year :lol: but got the cage bolted in, and fitted my new seats (the ones mention earlyer in the thread).

Just Couple bits now needed for me to MOT next year;

- Decent tyres for the wheels, prob get some T1R's for now as £125 for 4 brand new ones
- Two ring bolts for the Harness in the centre of the car.
- Bleed the the brakes
- Not really needed for the MOT, but need some paint work. And sort out the dent in the passangers door :x thanks to my dad again! :rolleyes:

Going to keep the 1.6 zetec at the moment, as would like to do some track days in 2011 finally? :o

The 1.8 engine I rebuilt for it is now being coverted to a Turbo engine, by useing decomp plate. Got hold of some second hand Escort RS turbo stuff, management will be sorted with be using Megasquirt 2 ECU with coil drivers installed for wasted spark setup. The meqasquirt will be connected to a ford EEC IV adaptor, so I can keep all the standard Ford loom.

So the Goal this year is to track the fiesta with 1.6 engine in, and try and blow the 1.6 up or replace it near to the end of 2011.

Will get some pics up later, but don't look much defferent except for the seats and dent in the door

The disc are 2wd Sierra Cosworth 283mm discs with 10mm spacers between the disc and hub,(as the cosworth 2wd hubs stick by about 10mm more compared to Cosworth 4x4 hubs. fitted 20mm longer studs all round due to this, but one day I would like to have some custom AP raceing/CompBrake 2 part discs. The Calipars are bolted up flush to the hubs with M12 bolts, had to drill out and tap the hubs to M12 thread (which my cusion did, when he had part share in it).

As you guys may know the 1.6 16 valve only has 90bhp so pob will not last long before me killing it, like my brother did with his 1.6 CVH 8 valve trying to keep up with a scooby at Donnington. So I may fit the 1.8 engine to use as per RS1800 spec during some point next year, I then can take the head of for the decomp plate and change the sump for turbo oil return feed while the block is in the car.

I did look at the Megasquirt DIYPNP with the EEC-IV adaptor from DIY Autotune, but I'm going another route that DIY Autotune do. I will be getting a normal Megasquirt 2 with Coil Drivers for Wasted Spark, then I will be getting a EEC-IV Adapter Board kit. This will enable me to sort out the Ford PATS (Ford Imobliser system), also enable to setup extras like Anti Lag, Launch Control and etc.

Image

This board fits inside any old EEC-IV ecu case, which I have plenty of.

Brought a couple bits cheap of ebay before Christmas, Mk4 Escort RS turbo Exhaust Manifold and T3 Turbo;

Image
Image

The Turbo needs a rebuild due to worn seals and bearings and so on, so in the new year I will be droping of with Turbo Dynamics as there only in Bournemouth which is not far from me. The Manifold will be sand blasted, then I will paint it with some high temp paint. Would like to Ceramic coat it (Zircotec), but a bit above my buget at the moment.

Due to the Escort RS Turbo manifold being designed for a CVH which is completely different, there is two options. First one is to Drill and tap new holes in the head, which I'm not keen on doing, the second option is a Adaptor Plate from Ferriday Engineering which looks a bit like like this;
Image
Image

A picture I found of it fitted with mainfold & turbo
Image

Also got myself a Escort RS Turbo boost cross over pipe from ebay cheap, waiting to be delivered due to Christmas.
Image

Just got make some modds to one of my spare rocker covers, to enable to be bolted to. So it should look like this at some point;

some pics of the seats fitted, needs a sun strip :rolleyes:

Image

In this pic you can see the rear wheels need pushing out a bit more, its currently got 10mm wheel spaces;
Image

Templete I've made so I can have some spacers made up to widen the rear track, by 10mm or maybe 20mm but not sure yet.
Image

Like I said before the 1.8 thats going to fitted then converted at a later date.
Image
Image
Image

A broken bolt that needs sorting before I can fit :rolleyes: thanks to the head refurb company doing up to tight :devil: but a bit of my fault waiting a year or so to undoing it :rolleyes: ;

Like I said, plan to get MOT and TAX for it at the begining of 2011. Run it for now with the 1.6 for now, then at some point next year fit the 1.8 as per Fiesta RS1800 spec (about 130bhp) which I have all the bits for now. Just need to get a broken bolt out of the head, fit the cams, fit new water pump, breather pipe modds and new cambelt then it will be ready to be fitted at some point next year. Also rebuild my spare Ford BC gearbox with LSD, which can be fitted to the 1.8 engine when its ready.

Once I have all the turbo conversion parts ready (hopefully end of 2011), as said above I can take the head and sump off while the block is still in the car.

- The Sump will be replaced with the modded one
- Decomp plated fitted and new head gaskets
- Exhaust adaptor plate fitted with mainfold and turbo.
- Fit front mounted air to air intercooler and boost pipes
- Fit turbo oil pipes
- Fit turbo water pipes
- Fit Fiesta RS Turbo rad and Roose Motorsport hybrid water hoses.
- Fit replacement Exhaust
- Fit Uprated Injectors with Adaptors
- Fit Megasquirt & Adaptor
- Take to cusion work or if not, somewhere else to be mapped up.

So my shopping list is as follows;

- MegaSquirt 2 and Ford EEC-IV Adaptor board
- 2mm Decomp Plate a head gasket
- CVH Exhaust manifold Adaptor plate
- Turbo Oil Feed pipes and T peice (Goodridge or Aeroquip)
- Turbo Oil drain pipes (Goodridge or Aeroquip)
- Turbo Water Pipes (Goodridge or Aeroquip)
- Nissan 200sx S14 Turbo Injector (Fiesta Turbo How to Link)
- Front Mount Intercooler and boost pipes
- Fiesta RS Turbo Alloy Rad with Roose Motorsport Hybrid Coolent pipes
- Fiesta RS Turbo Mongoose Exhaust with Modded T3 Turbo down pipe.
- Bolts, pipes and bits and bobs.

One day in future I would like to replace the 1.8 with a proper rebuilt 2 litre black top, with low comp forged pistons, steel rods and so on. But all depend on money and etc :rolleyes:

i know you know what your dng and all but id file away some of the exhaust adapter plate as the silvertop ports are oval not round, and that plate seems to be in the way of parts of the ports :(

could cause a restriction or flow issues :)

looking good though, its a 1.8 then?

any power level you hoping for? or just what you get is happy enough

The adaptor plate holes are cut to the same a the ERST manifold which are round aswell, not sure you can oval the manifold out. Seen a couple conversion with this adaptor, and they did not to seem to have any restriction problems :-? I m on a buget at the moment, but when income gets better then I would like to have a custom zetec t3 manifold to be made.

Yep, its a 1.8 . Only becasue cheaper and easy source than 2 litre, as said before maybe one day in the future when I have more cash I would like to drop a 2 lite with proper low comp pistons and rods.

Would be nice to get 200 to 220 bhp out it when finished, been told you can run between 1 bar (14psi) & 1.5 bar (22psi) of boost with decomp plate? but once built and running, it made progress further? But slowley due to have 2 other cars that I have, that are being modded too. 3x money pits :lol:
