Mk3.5 hubs and shocks on mk3 questions

Postby Rsmark86 on Mon Sep 16, 2013 9:16 am

Hi some one has fitted mk3.5 shocks on my mk3 and forced the mk3 hub over the end

Can I fit mk3.5 hubs too suit the shocks as they are mint and I have a mint pair of hubs with long stud conversion already done?

I'm hoping I don't have to change lower arms as I have some rose jointed looking ones too fit?

Should be fine tbh mate, the difference in size on the ball joint end is minimum, if you fit them and your not happy with how they are change the ball joints, I assume being rise jointed arms the ball joint is bolted on?

It's got pressed in custom bushes/ joints

But I could change the ball joints if needed

Well I'm going to stick some new bearing in and get some nice spacers done for my 4x4 brakes

And get them fitted up

Cheers mate

thats cool, thanks for the help, i read somewhere someone saying you needed everything from a mk3 including lower arms, track rods, shocks the lot lol

so if its just ball joints im happy with that, saves me looking for more mk3 hubs and having to restud them

i need to find some sort of kit or way of spacing the rear drums/hubs 10mm like the axle widering kits used on later fiesta's, as im having to space the fronts to clear shocks and think the rears need 10mm where as the fronts need 5mm just to look/sit right for my liking

There's ways round them things.

Spacing the stub axle off is the best bet tbh mate, you could buy a bit of 10mm alloy and make ya own up, or get the kit for the later one and open the holes out to suit

im going to see a fabricator tomorrow thats cheap as chips and very skilled so might just ask him to machince some up and sort the correct bolts ect too suit

i think 5mm front and 10mm rear will sit really nice but i dont like 10mm wheel spacers i would rather space the rear properly

otherwise im looking at 15mm hubcentric ones but the offset might be abit much with that on the front :x

Depending how 'rough' you want them, a bit of 10mm alloy plate bandsawn roughly to shape, burrs filed off and 4 holes drilled in each should be fairly cheap to be far and wouldn't taken them long to do.

And I know what ya mean, I'm not a fan of std big wheel spacers, and over the years I've seen some shocking things lol

Yeh just everything that sits on the top of the spring, except the bit inside the car where the bolt goes through?

Ah that would be the rubber bit and top cup where the shock bolts in and the 2 studs stick up through the rear turret

Yeh lol

I only have rear coilovers and I like to have matching set ups all round, and I got a mint gmax set up really cheap

So have have gmax front shocks with -60mm springs and coil overs for the rear for sale

And I've put on a full -40mm kit with polybushes, new steering knuckle, strut brace, rose jointed lower arms, cosworth 4x4 brakes, 5mm spacers and hopefully will have a 10mm axle widening kit soon

The car is imperial blue with team dynamic pro race 1.2s in white 16"

So it's getting there now
