MK3.5 Project!
MK3.5 Project!
Right, so i finally persuaded my girlfriend to part with her MK3 fiesta, i love fords, every car my family has ever had has been a ford, sadly i can only drive the fez with my grandad in the passenger seat as i havnt passed my test yet, so i havnt really had a chance to see what it can do, well i managed to get her to around 90 on a country road, but as you can imagine he was more than unimpressed
anyway, its my first car, up until i got it i didnt know anything about cars, i'd say im learning quickly due to a friend who has a mk3 in diamond white, which is currently have a 1.6 dropped in it.
i've been reading posts on this site and i've followed suit by checking for rust on the body work, under the bumpers etc... (THE WAS NON, well nothing majoooor)
thats pretty much it though, any of you want to tell me more things to check, you're more than welcome to ?!
my plans for it at the moment, are to drop it, but im not sure whats the best height ? and whether to save and invest in some coilovers ?
keeping the 1.1 for insurance reasons until at least march next year, want to keep it legal as knowing my luck i'd put a new engine in it and the fcuking law would catch up with me...
anywayyy heres some pictures of it when i got it and what ive done/what im doing
the first day with her, took the s**t wheel trims of to find all 4 original ford steelies
bought a new speedo with a revvo init i do need help on fixing the speedo up though ?
everything works but the revcounter
took the old ones apart and swapped the millage counter thing, so it was right
took the number plates off because they were s**t and old, got some nice new ones nice monster sticker?
nice newwww one! need a picture of the boot how it is now
both rear arches, not too bad i dont think ?
no offence to the girls on this site but..., proof women cant drive
it had a accident last year and a new wing was welded on, i thought everything else would have been fine intil i noticed the light wasnt sitting right, so i took the front bumper off and i was a bit upset to what i saw
sprayed the steelies with some of halfords finest gloss black
no rust on the rear at all, its good that ?
got an er2i spolier in my boot, my rooms beggining to look like a scrap yard and i live with my nan, shes dead happy about this (not)
fitting some rear speakers, he doesnt like photos
THE BEASTS HEART
the side looks s**t, how can i sort this, cheap ?
like i said, i need help, ideas?! anything you want to say, ill tak on board, anything to make it run better, look better sound better ? the best parts to buy ? places etc
THANKSSSS
mike x

Re: Moondust Silver Classic Quartz... for now!
Well it's defo a good base to work with, but it does need some serious cleaning up.
In terms of improving it, well it depends where you want to go with it! First thing to do would be to sort out behind that bumper and get the rear wing done, once that's done then start with the mods.
Personally, I'd be going for a xr2i interior, the grey will suit the body colour so would work nicely, then either go for Si or xr2i bumpers, personally, xr2i bumpers would look better with the body colour. Wheel wise - I'd be looking for some cheap alloy replacements, either some sort of Ford ones or go for some aftermarket ones, no bigger than 15" though, maybe a slight lowering job too? that depends on your insurance.
Either way, it's definitely got potential and keep us updated with whatever you do!

Re: Moondust Silver Classic Quartz... for now!
Si bumpers with skirts and arches is a decent look, just don't know if the bumpers would look right in that colour, where as the xr2i did come in that colour and looked very nice!
I believe the front end is a grind off and weld a new one on but no harm in getting a slide hammer and trying to pull as much of it out as possible!

Re: Moondust Silver Classic Quartz... for now!
p reg - were some of the last to roll off the production line
front valance needs to be either bashed/pulled out to make headlight sit correctly again.
as for rear quarter a mobile respray guy could do the job but to do it properly the car needs to go into bodyshop for dents to be pulled out then filler then respray.
Going to cost at least £400 for a half decent job.
get some ford hub caps if staying with them steels

Re: Moondust Silver Classic Quartz... for now!
thats a bit much clark
new car i take it mate
its alqways a great time
you've had as good of a start as i have, if thats anything to go by, give it another 2 years and you will be wizzing around in a very capable 1.8
to get the rev counter working, pop the bonnet, look on the scuttle panel at the back of the bay, right of the air box, theres a long plug with about 11 or so wires in it, looks to be under that cover. think its 2nd wire from the left, a green wire, trim part of the plastic back and solder a good lenth of wire to it, run this to your rev counter, it will allow you to have it working tot he correct signal.
think its a bit more to it than that, if you need more info go on http://www.fiestaguides.co.uk and look in the electrical guides section for the guide
i got a real bad thing for the bloody monster stickers, SOO over done now lol
for the rust in the arches. take wheels off for access, take an angle grinder to take it all back to bare metal, only the bubbled area and rust, then get some Red oxide primer and give it a nice few coats with a spray can version. let it dry for an hour after a few coats. then apply the moondust silver over it, leave 20mins or so between list mist coat and then normal coats, let it set helps to use an hair driver. and then laquer it , around two coats
you might need some filler if its distorted
id not go for the Si bumpers, no Si come in a light colour so they dont tend to suit, so id go for the Xr kit
looks a good base though, a good start

Rat I loved your old Si, was stunning!!
Mike, you could always do the Si bumpers and be different, I don't think I've seen one before so would be interesting to see it!! Plus if done with the 2i/RS skirts and arches it might look pretty good!!
Si bumpers are normally the cheapest to find also!

MikeHop :is there anything i can do to my engine to let a little more punch out of it until i save up for a new one ?
unfortunatly no in a word
the hcs engine is not worth spending any money on tbh. Maybe if you really want to put a K&N air induction filter to suck in a bit more fuel and up the fueling a tad to match the extra air. But power wise wont be noticable. You will notice a drop in mpg and gain a sucking noise.

Not expensive at all tbh. My kit hasnt got any distortion or cracks, includes all jacking covers, genuine rs spoiler, both bumpers rot free mounting points with no silly modifcations like cut outs for exhuasts or intercoolers. Thats my only spares i have so thats what i value them at.
MikeHop :i know yeah, must be perfect, that include delivery ?
didnt realise u were all the way up in blackpool.
I think the couriers charges will cost at least £45 for the whole bodykit. so maybe worth looking closer to home

a fiesta si in a scrap yard is a good find as the complete loom engine , fuel tank and extras can all be used to covert to a zetec.
then when your ready go for a 1.8 or even 2.0 from there

everytime i find something i like, i look at the location and you're all down south! ive only every seen one genuine rs turbo in blackpool, white one on escos wheels, it was for sale on here, that and a replica my mate has...
someone had an xr2i engine, loom, gearbox, exhaust for sale on here, but they were like a 4 hour drive away, it upsets me, still might be interested in the kit though! reckon you could go any lower on the price ? then i might be able to afford delivery?
