MK3.5 SI Brake Options

Postby kelvin156 on Mon Feb 11, 2008 11:41 pm

Am looking to upgrade the brakes on my si.

I have bought new pads just need new disks.

What are my best/cheapest option to upgrade the standard brakes already on my si.

Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.

Have 15" wheels.

Am not looking to increase power just upgrade brakes.

Am i best going for bigger disks of just getting same size but grooved/drilled ?

If you don't want mor ethan the stock power swapping to a decent pad like theg Ferodo DS2500 and getting some braided lines and flush the system through with fresh DOT-4 will suffice.

My understanding is that getting drilled or grooved discs will just make the discs cool down quicker, so id expect you to only notice the difference under considerable, sustained heavy braking. Or you could just get some fancy pads for the standard brakes which should make you stop a bit quicker. Whereas if you get biggers discs, i.e. the ST150 ones, (278mm) this dramatically increases the actual stopping power of the brakes.

If you go for the 150 setup then you will need the Carriers, Calipers, discs and pads all from a fiesta ST150.

really depends how much of an upgrade you are after.

I knew they were drums i was just checking they haven't got the same mounting, cant say ive ever taken any off tbh. So youd need to go for the mk5 rear beam to get discs on then?

For looks mainly i know the drums are ample stopping power i was asking if you could replace the rear drums with the front discs as when i get my 278s on the front ill have a set of standard fronts hanging around. that was all :)

Be useful if somebody just answered his question

No I doubt they would fit, most people who do the conversion to disks on the rear use rs2000 disks I beleive.

Although as most people here will end up saying, rear disks are deadly.. although I have no experience on this....
