Sorry for the delay on the BIG update..
taken ages to upload all these pictures...
2 weeks ago i went to the IOW to work on the pick up for 9 days.. got loads done....
here's how she was friday after when i got there..
inside is bare
had loads of stuff to sort thru.
took 2 azev's with me to try on for size
they stick out slightly but all is hidden with the bodykit... arches will be trimmed tho
one drive shaft out.
old door cards off
some close up of the work ahead inside the cab
with arch on and wheel on
other driveshaft out
took the anti roll bar off
then realised it held the front wheels upright
so put it back on...
tried the wheels on the back
and with the arch on..
then we noticed the rear passenger side wheel sits slightly forward.. this is down to the rear axle being played about with and being not put back together properly... another thing to put right on the truck...
the rear passenger side arch had been replaced just before the re spray just before i bought it and this had been rolled nicely.. as you can see..
but something else left for me to sort out, the drivers side rear arch.. poorly cut and left..
a close up of the drivers side rotten sill..
engine bay becoming empty.
the same for the cab..
had an idea for the 5th azev...
what do you think?? comments please...
took out both sets of rear shoes from the drums so the pick up would roll a little easier.. brakes had binded big time
close up of the little shocks...
took the tank out... its huge!!!
off comes the handbrake cable...
and fuel lines and brake lines..
heres how she lay at the end of the day.. saturday.
next morning.. off comes the tailgate...
the parts begin to pile up.. nearest bin all good stuff, far bin full of rubbish...
my couisins mate delivered 2 spits for us to borrow..
getting it ready up in the air
had to modify the spit stabalising arms
cut these off
made these up
had the other one welded to the bed as it needs work anyway..
bolted the made up parts to the front
they were then welded to the other stabalising arm
what do you think of this...
big bull bars for the pick up... only joking!!! they aint going anywhere near the beast
all up in the air
you can see the black tarry s**t underseal.. it was proper thick and very sticky!!!
one section for repair
chassis rails have seen better days and had rubbish repair done in the past
as have the floors
other chassis rail
next morning axle off
some shots of the underside in daylght
used a wire wheel and had a go at the floor this took about 2 hours
but came out ok.. then came the rain
off came the doors and tried on some series 1 decals that my bro lent me
too small tho, so having some specially made up for the beast
engine bay empty now
we etch primed the floor, but cos it gives such a thin covering, rust set in..
close up of the box section that needs repairing
and part of the chassis rail that fell apart
windscreen out.. but cracked it on its exit.. it was brand new series 2 heated screen as well nevermind.. new one on order soon
later that day had a thought... why not get the underside of the pick up sand blasted to see the wood for the trees..
so i did...
along came these chaps
started sheeting up the underside
then he got to work.. looked like an astranaut :content:
took him a few hours to get the it all off..
some of the original rubber underseal just wouldnt shift, but the floor was good in those places so we left it as it was
then the fella started to underseal it again to protect it all.. he used an apoxy 2pac primer.. looked good all white underneath
well pleased with how it came out, took the guy just over 3 hours in total, it gave us a better base to work with and we could really see what had been done to the underside in the past...
next day started cutting out the s**t sections..
these are where the leaf springs hang from at the back of the pick up
here's the new sections i made up
much stronger and made with thicker sheet metal that original
other section cut out
and all cleaned up
more rot cut out
old chassis rail cut right out
the remains...
new leaf spring mounting sections
how they look all fitted together
cleaned up where the chassis rails once lay
whilst on the IOW i had new chassis rails made up by a little engineering firm had them made in straight sections... but they couldnt put the little bend in that i wanted, so i had to finish them off...
here's what they looked like before
my bro made me up a jig to hold the spare wheel against the cab..
here it is in a vice at another engineering firm, awaiting modification to get the angle matched to the cab rear panel...
we cut 2 slots in it, and then malleted it to get the angle then filled the gap with weld and malleted to complete the angle required (20 degrees)
as you can seeone slot filled, and the other awaiting weld..
here's how it turned out
well pleased with it, came out really well and the fella didnt charge alot for doing it to!! on the other end of this is the outside of front hub from my fiesta turbo, this is going to be welded to the the jig and then fixed to the pick up...
last morning on the IOW, welded up new sections..
then disaster struck!!! had a row with an angle grinder and came off worse...
13 stitches!!! was on crutches and i'm off work still, 2 weeks later... :wall: :wall:
cut right down to the muscle... really painful!!
hope you like the update.. got more pictures to come of the donor car being pulled apart, big time... enjoy

so i did...
along came these chaps
started sheeting up the underside
then he got to work.. looked like an astranaut :content:
took him a few hours to get the it all off..
some of the original rubber underseal just wouldnt shift, but the floor was good in those places so we left it as it was
then the fella started to underseal it again to protect it all.. he used an apoxy 2pac primer.. looked good all white underneath
well pleased with how it came out, took the guy just over 3 hours in total, it gave us a better base to work with and we could really see what had been done to the underside in the past...
next day started cutting out the s**t sections..
these are where the leaf springs hang from at the back of the pick up
here's the new sections i made up
much stronger and made with thicker sheet metal that original
other section cut out
and all cleaned up
more rot cut out
old chassis rail cut right out
the remains...
new leaf spring mounting sections
how they look all fitted together
cleaned up where the chassis rails once lay
whilst on the IOW i had new chassis rails made up by a little engineering firm had them made in straight sections... but they couldnt put the little bend in that i wanted, so i had to finish them off...
here's what they looked like before
my bro made me up a jig to hold the spare wheel against the cab..
here it is in a vice at another engineering firm, awaiting modification to get the angle matched to the cab rear panel...
we cut 2 slots in it, and then malleted it to get the angle then filled the gap with weld and malleted to complete the angle required (20 degrees)
as you can seeone slot filled, and the other awaiting weld..
here's how it turned out
well pleased with it, came out really well and the fella didnt charge alot for doing it to!! on the other end of this is the outside of front hub from my fiesta turbo, this is going to be welded to the the jig and then fixed to the pick up...
last morning on the IOW, welded up new sections..
then disaster struck!!! had a row with an angle grinder and came off worse...
13 stitches!!! was on crutches and i'm off work still, 2 weeks later... :wall: :wall:
cut right down to the muscle... really painful!!
hope you like the update.. got more pictures to come of the donor car being pulled apart, big time... enjoy
