Re: mk3 fiesta st turbo engine conversion ?
ye the engine is pushing 220bhp standard doing 150mph and 0-60 in 6.5 seconds in the focus!!!!!!!!!!!, also it is a volvo engine so you no its solid as a rock lol, so im thinking this conversion could be pretty good, supprised more people havent looked into it to be honest.

Look at the cost of buying the engine and bits then you'll see why breakers near me want £1800 for the engine and loom

Thats a good prise i was thinking the engine would be 2k so is you did the work your self the cost and time would be a lot for 220bhp Most zetec turbo's on here will be more then that with out 20 miles of loom to unpick through and engine bay to weld up im sure it look cool and be one of a kind but you will be looking at a project that might take a year + of you time

Re: mk3 fiesta st turbo engine conversion ?
When you consider it i dont think it would fit. not having the dimensions of the engine to hand i figured that the ST engine is equivalent to 1 1/4 zetecs. now the zetec doesnt exactly have a massive amount of room in the fiesta engine bay does it? add to that another cylinder and the undoubtably much fatter gearbox and you end up with a square peg/ round hole situation. i may well be wrong but in my mind its not going in that bay without it first having major modifications done.
If you want to do the project then good luck with it but in all honesty it would probably take upwards of 2 years unless you happen to be rolling in it and know an excellent fabricator/ engineer.

Re: mk3 fiesta st turbo engine conversion ?
It's a good option - I did consider it for my current project as I wanted a reliable, torquey and modern power-plant.
Good points of the Volvo/Ford Duratec I-5 are:
1. All-Alloy Engine so light, good power/weight.
2. Already Turbo'd in standard form so no need for new expensive rods/pistons (most engines done low mileage too).
3. Can get hold of the whole package in "one go" from the donor car (i.e Gearbox/Clutch/driveshafts/Loom/Ecu/Manifolds/turbo etc), so very cost-effective and you know it will all work well.
4. Can use all standard Ford parts so a nice, easy car to maintain once done.
5. Comes with 6-Speed Transmission so no more broken BC 'Boxes.
Bad points
1. Initial outlay £1500-£2000+ (the cost for taking the whole lot off the grubby hands of your local scrappy) is a lot of money for some, despite being cost-effictive in the long-run.
2. You'll need some serious workshop facilties/fabricating skills/Tools/Time/Knowledge to get this lot into a MK3 Fez (and working! ).
3. Engine could be a bit on the long side to fit into a MK3 Fez as it has the extra cylinder (not confirmed this yet )
Hope that helps you decide mate!
Like I say, I did consider doing what I did with the "Manj" and just rip the whole innards out of a dead Focus ST and install it all in my Fiesta as it's a very cheap way of getting a fast, reliable car
Instead I've opted for a 2.3 All-Alloy Ford/Mazda Duratec instead as it's a compact 4-cylinder lump that weighs over 40lb less than a Zetec 2.0 and is close to the Volvo 5-Pot in capacity too. Also, Ford fitted the 6-Speed Getrag 'box to some 1.8 & 2.0 Duratec Mondeos so there are still some nice Transmission options for it in tuned form.
Whatever you do, get it posted in members' gallery - It'd be great to see a 5-Cyl 2.5 Turbo, 6-Speed Fiesta on FT.com!

Luke1990 :that sounds like an awesome conversion the escort that is. Can you get rwd in that?
its possible using the volvo 4x4 system what is ment to be going in the new focus rs
but i dont think ill bother, my escort is going to be a cosworth rep (all genuine pannels etc not the usual crap) so if i made it 4x4 when i came to sell it ill loose to much money as it will make more sence just to buy a normal escos
advantages of a st engined escos and keeping it fwd, i have the reliablility of the focus st and modern power which the escos doesnt have..
plus i get to keep the killer cossi looks
heres the passion ford thread if intrested
http://passionford.com/forum/showthread.php?t=203818
not done alot to it for a while as ive been messing with my fiesta track car but will be starting back on the escort in a few weeks!
